I have heard that the government gives you money at the end of tax season for having a child providing that you worked that taxed year.

I know the IRS form 8332 is for non-custodial parent to claim exemption, but I have a shared custody situation and since my ex-wife is unable/unwilling to help pay for school tuition which she agreed to pay 1/2 of, I want her to legally give me the right to claim both children instead of 1 child.

I want to claim all 3 of my children on my tax retrn this year since my husband and I have been seperated for 2 years but not yeat divorced. But, he says that since his child suport is based on him claiming 2 and me only claiming one, I have no right. Now, I was reading that I have to actually sign a gov form that reliquishes my rights to the exceptions before he can take them-which I have not- but I do have a paper from my lawyer to his that states that if he pays X dollars (which he does) than he can claim 2. This paper is not a legally filed document, just a negotiation, but I want to know if it constitutes me haven given up my rights to claim all 3 exceptions-or do I still have the right since I never signed the offical form...can anyone help?

He has full custody and they have lived with us for over the past 2 years, however i did not claim them last year. I have been their main provider for 2006 as their father has not worked, and their mother does not pay support, and hardly ever visits them (she sees them maybe one night every 6 or weeks).

I started a business 6 years ago and didnt do much bookkeeping then. I used an inheritance for funding but, according to my new office manager, apparently never made any real profit - just spent the inheritance. I closed in 2006 with no revenue and lots of expenses. I still have expenses related to the business. Now I have a full time employee job and taxes withheld. With good records and real expenses, can my business loss offset my current tax liability if I show no income or losses for the prior 5 years?

My brother-in-law got paid today (2007) for his last week he worked in December of 2006. His employer put on his paytub something about end of year (2006) earnings. Which included this paycheck he got today. If this is suppose to be for 2007, where can I read (forum, website, etc) Anywhere I can print out proof that it should not reflect the 2006 year but reflect the 2007 year. Someone please help me as soon as possible. Thank you.

Worked under 1099. The first pay check was manual check from the company I worked for, and the rest from the company's payroll company. I'm trying to computer my 2006 estimated tax to send it out before 1/16/07 deadline.
My problem is on the final paycheck stub, the payroll company did NOT include the amount I was paid for by the manual check, and I was told by the company I worked for that I can just use the number on my final paycheck stub to figure out my Estimated Tax.
This number does not include the 1st pay, manual check.

I think the payroll company probably has reported IRS whatever the number was on my final paycheck stub which doesn't include the amount on the manual check.

What do I do? Do I use the number on the final paycheck stub OR
add the amount of manual check to the number to figure out my 2006 estimated tax?
