I work as an independent contractor as a medical transcriptionist from home. I am not really self-employed. I just work from home for a company out of state. I have a 1099 form and a W2 from this company, as I switched from employee to IC status last year. My IC pay is under $10,000.00 and over 30% was taken out of this. My husband received a $10,000.00 bonus through work any they only took out 25%...what gives? Why such a difference?

I e-filed my taxes today. Then an hour later in the mail I got a W-2 from a temp job I did, a total of some 40 bucks. Is this a big deal? Is there any way to report this extra money on taxes I've already e-submitted?

My ex is signing a form to allow me to claim our daughter for exemtion purposes in 2006 even though she lived with him, I can;t recall the name of it so any help there would be great too so I don;t have to search for it to download LOL.
My question is, with this form can we also claim the additional child tax credit with her or does this form NOT apply to that deduction? It looks to me like she would not be a qualifying child for THAT credit, but for exemption purposes only. Thought I'd ask for anyone elses thoughts on it though.
Thanks!

I have a question regarding how much tax should be taken from my pay on a 1099 form. Let's say my pay (only from my 1099) was $9,000.00 Shouldn't the percentage be 25%? Between my husband's income and mine, we are in the 25% tax bracket. Entering this into TurboTax...it deducts over 30% off of this 1099 form. I am confused. Can someone help or explain?

My husband bought a new vehicle and the company he works for gives him $800 a month for vehicle expenses. They put this $800 in with his regular check which taxes are taken out of, but they do not take taxes out of the $800. My question is will he still get a 1099 for the vehicle expense or is that included on his W-2 since it was not on a seperate check?

I work as a secretary for the NHS. We are expected to cover for colleagues when on holiday but when my colleague went on compassionate leave for 7 extra weeks I covered doing up to 20 hours extra per week. I was told by my line manager I would be paid, but now I keep getting false promises. The work was done last Oct/Nov. Can I claim through the Small Claims Court?

I checked on the status of my OK state tax refund this morning and was told that it was being held because of some unpaid bills from 2002! My ex-husband (whom I divorced in 2003) filed an amended return for the 2002 taxes in 2005! I was on the 2002 return with him. Can he file an amended return that was originally filed joint without my signature or knowledge? I'm so frustrated....I have to go thru something like this every year with my state return, something he did while we were married always ends up costing me and not him!!!

I was able to file my federal return free but because I work in 1 state and live in another, I had to pay to file in both those states. Can I deduct the filing fees for my '05 return this year since I paid those fees in '06?

Thanks..

I was married January of 2006. I have a debt that I owe on for Social Security and one to the Department of Economic Security. The debts have been collected by intercepting my taxes every year. They were both acquired before I was married. This year we will file married but we do not want his taxes collected for my debts (also I have not worked in the year 2006). I know there is more benefit to us if we file jointly as opposed to separately. I also heard if we file jointly we could submit an 8379 injured spouse. How much longer does this take, if it is filed will it guarantee it will not take his return, and living in Arizona does this affect us will all of this? Are there any other options for us instead?

I just want the honeymoon, catering, location. rings etc..

additionaly, I assume I can reject prize upon winning it, if I don't sign for it?

What is the taxation laws for gift taxes for those who reside in the state of Minnesota? It is my understanding that any gift in the amount of 11,000.00 or less is not taxable income. Is that correct? If you know of a website that specifically answers this question could you provide the website? Thanks!

We have two boys and I claim one and he claims the other. I have been claiming my younger son and his daycare expenses. My ex just asked the daycare for a tax receipt. He told me he puts both sons on his taxes and marks one non-dependant but still puts the daycare expense for him. Can he do that? I thought only one of us can claim it, and that would be me. Advice please.

Presume my significant other (non-married), exclusively a US citizen and resident, comes to stay with me in Canada as a visitor for the maximum allowable six month period. She is, legally, not allowed to work here.

Can she, from a computer at my house in Canada, work online for an American company? Would she have to file taxes with the CRA as well as the IRS? How does that work?

References appreciated. I can't find anything.
