I just filed my income taxes this afternoon. I claimed my neighbor's daughter as a non-EIC dependent, but she made less than $1000.00 for the year. I did not report her income because she made less than $3200.00. Should I have claimed her income even though we never received any of it? Also, we had one other W-2 show up in the mail today that was not reported. It is only for $57.00 with no Federal or State taxes taken out. I imagine that I will need to file an 1040X, but what am I looking at as far as receiving my refund in time? We are due a refund of approx. $2400 this year, with an AGI of approx. $29,000. Any solutions?

I know these two people one of which is paid under the counter and so therefore is not entitled to any kind of tax return but somehow managed to come up with something to be able to get a tax return. His wife only made like 200 dollars for the year of 2006, but they got a tax return check for over four thousand dollars. They wrote off daycare costs when their kid wasn't even in daycare, and they also wrote off other things that I know they shouldn't have. Should I do something about this because I know they shouldn't have gotten back what they did and I know they cheated on their taxes. WHAT WOULD YOU DO IN THIS SITUATION??

I manage event marketing tours. In 2006, I managed tours for 4 different companies. I spent a total of 241 days on the road. What amount can I deduct for hotels and meals? Also, are there deductions besides laundry & cell phone that I should be thinking of?

I am filing married, filing jointly and trying to decide whether to file a 1040EZ or regular 1040. The only deduction I have is student loan interest of $1,200.

The standard deduction on 1040EZ is $16,900 but the standard deduction on 1040 is only about $10,000. Why is that? If I only have $1,200 in deductions, it seems that I would be much better off filing on the 1040EZ. Is this correct?

I just received a 1099 for consultant work I did in 2006. The 1099 is for an amount far more than I was actually paid. I am contacting the company, but it is a huge bureaucracy and I’m worried they won’t correct it. What can I do on my return to not go into poverty to pay taxes on an enormous amount of money that I was never paid.

My business had taken a loan out in 2004; I know that I was able to deduct the interest for the last couple of years; now it came due in 2006 - about $40,000 I had to pay; is there anyway to legally deduct that loan payoff?

My son was born in March 06. This year my x-boyfriend made 19,000, and I made 38,000. My x-boyfriend's family told us that my boyfriend should claim our son because he would get more money back. I disagree. I had read that the person with the higher income should claim the baby. Also, I rent an apartment, could I claim head of household and get more money back? What do I do if my X claims my son? I pay for everything and my son lives with me.

I have had a dividend reinvestment account that has been active for almost 30 years. I sold 3/4 of it in order to purchase a home this year which amounted to about $75,000. According to the cost basis calculator on the tax software I'm using, I will owe about $13,000 - does this sound accurate? I do not have the full purchase history - the stock has gone through several mergers since it was acquired when I was a baby. I hope I'm doing something wrong - any direction would be much appreciated.

I filed my federal and state income taxes on 1/30, and my return was accepted by both agencies.

However, today, 2/1 I received an additional W2. I had completely forgotten I worked for this company and it was brief and the beginning of last year. The difference is about $200 in their favor on each return.

I know I have to file a 1040X, but my return was scheduled to be direct deposited next Friday. Is there any chance they still would, and I just send back the difference? Can I call them to try and get them to release the approval so I can put the new w2 info in, or will they adjust it automatically without a huge wait?

This was an honest mistake and I am so sorry, I just had made some arrangements to pay bills with the refund and hope it will work out. Does anyone have a similar experience?

Last year i my neice stayed with me and my mom for about 8 months so i claimed her on my taxes. I got audited and they wanted proof that she stayed with me well that is the problem considering the fact she did not change schools. Well since I did not have any proof she stayed with me i let the deadline on the letter pass. I recently learned that i could have sent in notorized letters from my mother and sister(my neices mother). is it to late to do anything because i received a letter saying i owe $3800?
