What makes you think the IRS would go away? They'd still administer whatever tax we had to pay.

With the low income payment feature of the so-called "Fair Tax" system, the system would be rampant with fraud at least as much as it is under the current system. There would be massive filings by employers to keep track of everyone's income and entitlements.

The black market for untaxed goods would be on a scale such as we haven't seen since Prohibition. Needless to say, gangs and organized crime would have a significant hand in that. It's one thing to buy crack or meth from a gang-banger -- imagine what it will be like buying TVs, DVDs or Captain Crunch from them. NO THANKS!

By "Fair Tax" do you mean flat tax or consumption tax. I would support a tiered flat tax since some people don't make enough money to raise their family with and wealthy people wouldn't feel the bite of an extra 3 or 4 percent burden. A national sales tax wouldn't be so bad either unless it slowed sales and subsequently the economy. You'd have to phase it in and see if it would work.
