I think the law is that it has to be postmarked by January 31st. What happens if it's late or I never receive it? To whom do I report it? The labor board or a tax bureau??

Me: earned about $30k in '06. Spouse: earned about $9k, but has school tuition to deduct. Simply considering this info, which would be more advantageous (larger return): filing jointly or separately? Just looking for a jumpin off point here. Thank you!

I'm a single guy with no kids and I live on my own. I don't have a ton of deductions so doing my taxes is usually very straightforward. How much would it cost to have it done by a professional?

It is illegal in many state to live together and not be married, the law is just not enforced, until the govt thinks you want something from them. Some people called me nuts I call the IRS and they said (Karen S. # 5909319) as long as it is not illegal to cohabitate together in GA (it is in FL) I could be a qualifying dependent. Page 20, Booklet 1040. Thanks

Does anybody know of a website that will calculate an estimate for what I will owe in income taxes if I am filing a 1099-MISC? I have to file 2 1099-MISC and one 1099-R and I can't find a site that will let me put all that info in to calculate an accurate estimate of what I will owe. Every site I've been to has quoted something very different because none of them give me the option of including the 1099-MISC and 1099-R info, they only give me the option of being self-employed (1040-c) or filing a W2. I know I will need to talk with a tax professional, but I want to just get an idea of what I will end up owing. Also, this wouldn't be self-employed income would it? Isn't that only for people who run their own business and get a 1040-C? I get paid as a non-employee of a small business, more like an independent contractor I suppose.

I only have to fill out the 1040ez, but I'm not sure how to do it with two w2's. Do I just add up the amount from both?

Just a simple question.

I receive, not pay, child support. Do I need an end of the year statement from what has been paid to me or anything like that when I file for my taxes?

The bank rejected it because it was my brother in laws account and my name is not on it.Now we have to wait for the bank to send it back and the IRS will have to issue me a paper check. Is there any way I can get around this? Can I go to h&r block and get the anticipation loan? I cant wait the extra month its gonna take now. I need the money for to many things and this is messing a lot of things up for me because I was counting on the money to be here already.

Hello Everyone,

I have always done my taxes myself. However, I always hear from friends that they got a larger return by using a preparer. I am single, Claim 2, Income that does not qualify for a free file, have property tax and mortgage interest to claim as well as some student loan interest. Employer 401k. Nothing out of the ordinary.

Do Preparers get more for you then software??
