I'm a single guy with no kids and I live on my own. I don't have a ton of deductions so doing my taxes is usually very straightforward. How much would it cost to have it done by a professional?

I don't want to break your heart or anything, but the "regular" H&R Block guys aren't certified public accountants (CPA's) or anything... they're just using the software like you would. You can go to H&R Block and make an appointment with a CPA, but that's what'll cost you.

Did you know that you can go to http://www.irs.gov and look up how to get your taxes done for free there?!? I used to go to H&R Block in person, then I saved some $$ by getting the at home software (you still get the Worry-Free Audit Support and all their same benefits) until my sister passed that link on to me and now I go to H&R Block through the link on the IRS's page and pay absolutely $0 and STILL get all the regular benefits of H&R Block!!

SO, to answer your question, it could cost you absolutely nothing at all to file your taxes using a company like H&R Block.

PS: My taxes aren't even as "simple" as yours probably are, as I am a Substitute Teacher and I get a W-2 for each school I work at, I'm a single mother of 1 that alternates dependency from year to year for my daughter with her father, and I've got all sorts of CD's and mutual funds and fun stuff... it's still really easy to do yourself!

You'll be fine - do it yourself, don't pay for it, and feel proud!

Free.
H & R Block participates in the IRS' Free File Alliance.
Block's free service is for anyone with an AGI of $52,000 or less and under 50 yrs. old.
Since your return should be fairly simple, I'd go that route. No need to hire a high paid professional. Just answer the questions and you're done.
Just an FYI- Although, H & R Block does not offer free state filing, your state's Dept. of Revenue might.

I've used Block's free filing for the last 3 yrs.

Depending on if you just e-file or get a refund anticipation loan (or rapid refund, depending on the company), the charges can vary quite a bit. If you get any kind of loan, the finance charges are based on the amount of your refund. You could go as low as $100 up to $200 (or more) depending on how many forms you have and how you choose to get your refund.

TOO MUCH and you are putting yourself at risk for having an incompetent tax preparer. Seriously, they are expensive.

Buy Turbo Tax. It is cheaper and a better product, from what I've heard.
