I live in TN. My sister and mother live with me. My sister worked part time for a littler while, only for a few months, last year. Does she have to file income tax or can I claim her? (I believe there's a minimum amount someone can make under & not have to file, I just dont know that amount is). I pay the majority of the bills. Also, my mother is on Social Security (due to her age), but I take care of her. Could I claim my mother or can you not claim someone if they draw Social Security? I've had a couple of people tell me that I should've been claiming them both for years now, but others who says I cannot claim them (legally). I only want to do it, if it will be legal.

i have no clue when it comes to pay taxes. i don't want to do it by accountant, my business is simple such as cutting people grass.

"i don't have a license for self-employed" and this is Michigan state.

here is what i know so far, correct me or add things to it:

1st step: open bank account
2nd: use that bank account to buy all necessary tools and keep its reciepts.
3rd: ask customers to send you a check to that bank account? and keep all their check returns.
4th step: keep do all these steps above till 2008 until you file your Schedule SE tax form & schedule C form along with 1040 income form.
5th step . send all reciepts you have saved along with all these tax forms to IRS address?

anything more need to be done?

A company has contract workers and sends out 1099's only if they made over $600.
If someone made a couple hundred and spent out as much or more in expenses, do they need to bother to report this on their return?
