Nothing is free, we pay for everything. From the moment I pull my car into the street, I'm using something that was paid for by taxes. I take my child to school, also paid for by taxes. I could go on and on and on about why we need to pay taxes, but it would get boring after a while.

Short answer: The Government has bigger guns than you.

Long Answer:
If you are in the USA, there was a time before Income, Sales, Property tax. The Constitution only allowed for things like trade tarriffs to pay for the federal government. The State and local governments were given the right to do anything not forbidden by the federal constitution; which explains why there is such a huge tax disparity based on the state you live in.

Over time due to various "emergencies" government started finding ways of taxing just about everything you do.

Most Taxpayers in the US are paying roughly 50% of their income to some form of tax (Income, sales, property, entertainment, sin etc. etc.)

The sad part is that you are being taxed more than the Serfs (read slaves) in the middle ages, who were required to only give 1/3 of the fruits of their labor to the master of the castle.

we are paying for everything we have and everything we use....the roads, the hospitals, public schools, medical care, etc etc. And we need someone to figure out what how much money goes to each, so we hire the president. And the president hires all these politicians to argue back and forth...and we pay for that....and if you ever become unemployed and get into a car accident, the government will take care of your accident, no questions asked, and no money upfront...and in alot of cases, if you make no money that year......they never even ask for money at all....thats peace of mind living in usa...other countries are worse...no healthcare like ours, schools, colleges..etc etc..you think its unfair, but once you understand that nobody works for free, you cannot blame doctors and hospitals for not treating you ...

the 16th amendment says so. The govt needs the money. They think they can spend it better than we do. It pays for all the pork projects that the govt puts into law.

Actually, there's no Consitutional basis for taxation in this country, and taxation without representation was the big revolutionary rallying cry. Ironic, don't you think?
