is it really necesary? if I want to start selling my artwork and post it in the net, how can I protect it from someone else claiming is theirs?

I LOVE bridal and formal gowns. I would love to open an online bridal shop like some of the ones I have seen. And prhaps eventually a brick and mortar store once I have raised enough money. I have a decade of retail sales experience in brick and mortar stores. I have designed many websites for various things. I don't currently have the capital to open a brick and mortar store, and I don't know how to become an authorized dealer. If anyone can offer any guidance, that would be great!

Any help would be great! I was thinking of doing mostly dog walking & possibly offering pet sitting services to well established clients. How do I start?
