I want to give a landlord a security deposit to hold an apartment but I have more appointments that I want to go to and if those places are better or cheaper, I would like to go with them instead and would like my deposit back since I haven't signed the lease yet.

I recently signed an apartment lease for a two bedroom loft apartment and to my horror, my queen sized box spring can not fit through the staircase leading to the upper floor loft bedrooms. It seems through talking to other tennants, this has happened with any box spring larger than a twin size. This problem was not known by many tennants until after they signed the lease and were moving in. This apartment is the first building opened for tennants in a completely remodeled apartment complex and apparently the remodeling of the staircase is the culprit.

The apartment management's only suggestion was to turn the first floor living room into the bedroom and the second floor bedroom into the living room (?!)

Does this issue constitute a breach of the apartment owner to provide me with the apartment that I expected when I signed the lease ? Is this issue serious enough for me to have legal grounds for me to terminate the lease ?

This apartment is located in Iowa.

I have a 2300 sq craftmen style house built in 1997. It is on a 1/2 acre lot with many trees and a creek. It is 3 stories with maple hardwood floors and a lot of arcitural flare. We are in a great neighborhood and good schools.

My husband and I hired an attorney to have a title search done on our property prior to getting our mortgage. Upon the attorney's research she found that the title was good, however 2 years later after completing our building another person file claim for our property. It has been over a year now and it sames as if our attorney is not giving our case priority (seeing that she is at fault). We need to complete the next unit of the duplex but the bank can't facilitate us until the title on our property is cleared so we are not making any income from rental of next unit. Can you please advise whether we can file a suit against her?? Thanks!

Hi there , I'm looking to buy an apartment in Queens, NY. Majority of the places I like are coops. I've been getting a strong advise not to buy a coop, but I'd like to know if there is a difference between coop and condo. I think condos in Queens are seriously overpriced and cost as much as houses. Why would there be such a difference in prices? Why the demand on condos is so much higher? Is there any legal restrictions in buying and selling coop? What is a difference in holding a title to condo versus owning a coop apartment?

My fiance and I are looking to buy a house that's down the street from his mom's. His mom's house is a ranch style home, and was appraised at $150K, drive-by. The house we're looking at is a two story and a REAL fixxer-upper. It's a bank foreclosure and has been sitting for about a year and a half. The realtor said it's going for $100,000. Would we be ignorant for telling them that we'll give them $55-$60K for the house?

The house is in need of a new roof, updating (still has shag carpeting in some rooms), and just general housecare.

Also, because my credit isn't the best, would it be dumb of me to try to get on the loan WITH my fiance, who has great credit? Or should he just get the house on his own?

My fiance and I are having a discussion about buying our first home. I told him we should think about having at least a five percent down payment. He said he doesn't think it's necessary. He said he hears commercials on the radio everyday that talk about buying your first home and how you don't need a down payment. I think he's talking about those commercials that are those guys that are trying to rip you off and make a lot of money off the interest since you aren't having a down payment. Anyone have any suggestions or know where I could learn more about buying our first home and if it's recommended to have a down payment. (I think it'd be a very bad idea not to have one. How can I convince him, too?)

I am moving soon to a new state. I have been trying to find housing there (someplace just to rent). I have already made two trips out there and come up with some decent leads.

This week, though, I found a great listing on Craig's List. It would be more bang for our buck than what we had found on our last trip out there. It is bigger, but it is in the neighborhood that we wanted. And, the pictures make it look nicer than some of the other places we had leads on.

But, going out there again would involve a 27-hour car ride and/or 300-500 dollars worth of expenses (even if we flew). Because I met this landlord on Crait's list, I am a bit nervous just handing him $1000 (for rent and a security deposit). Even though he had ample pictures, I know it potentially could be a scam.

What can I do to make sure it is for real without going out there again? Any ideas?
