My fiance is about to start a new job with a friend that started his own company under a year ago. I'm worried that he may not be making as much money if business is slow, and want suggestions on little things that can save money. I'm only 20 so I'm sure many of you older Moms have some great tips. Thanks!

My office is closing due to the owner's bad business deals. My company actually owes me nearly 20k, that I haven't received. Because of this, my home is in foreclosure and I want to prevent the sale. If my father and/or I declare bankruptcy, can we keep both homes? I can earn enough to pay it back within 6 months, but the bank obviously won't wait that long (the way it is).

My credit isn't good enough to qualify on my own to buy it right now, but I can fix that with time.

BTW, my dad is on the title of both homes. He is not late on his payments, so his property should be fine. Can we save this 2nd home?

My husband has 3 weeks paid vacation a year. He gave a months notice and worked it out. He has therefore accrued one week of his vacation, and expects to be paid this. His former employer says you only get that if he fired him. Who is correct?

HELP.

I live in California and my mom (who also lives here) came to me, asking for help...she's in her late 70s and she's always been really bad with money.

I didn't really realize just how bad (she never really let me see; I just knew she was...keeping shuffled up piles of papers in big cardboard boxes, etc.) until she turned over her bills to me to take care of. They were so out of control that she was nearly drowning in debt. Not only that, but she was literally in fear from collectors calling to harass her and mailing her notices.

When I was going through her bills sorting everything out (and what a tangled web she has, I must say), I noticed a letter from Scott Lowery Law Office.

Her credit report doesn't show the creditor, the acct. # or the debt amount...could this be an old debt, & if so, how far back do they go? If it doesn't show up on the CR does she still need to pay it?

I contacted Bud Hibbs but got kind of a hint to ignore it but not a concrete answer.

to make automatic deductions from your check for 401k? I just noticed that my employer is taking out 2% of my income and putting it into a 401k which I never authorized. I do get paperwork from them from time to time but am not interested in enrolling in any program as I live from check to check and cannot afford insurance or retirement accounts. I get paid electronically so I hadn't really looked at my check before recently. They have taken 60 dollars out in the past 3 months. I called to cancel to day and they said they could cancel it but couldn't refund my money until I retire or quit my job, which I don't plan to do. I really need that money for my childs school supplies as I am in a financial disaster not even having enough food and having to scramble for bus money. It there any way I can get them to give me my money back now or have they stolen it? As far as I am concerned, if I can't have it now, they are stealing it.

I would like to do set something up for my newborn niece (and brother and sister-in-law) to help her financially.

What's the best way to do this, what would you suggest? Are there accounts, funds, tools that allow you to contribute pre-tax dollars and not be taxed on the growth?

I am open to setting up a college fund, but leaning to long term goals for my niece i.e., to buy a house or give her headstart on retirement.

Additional Details:
- I make a modest income, but can contribute ~ $20 month.
- I am 40 and figure I have about 25 - 30 years to do this.
- I contribute to 403b retirement accounts

Any help with this is greatly appreciated!

If you are receiveing an automatic monthly deposit for earned online affiliate commission programs and you die, would Commission Junction and your bank find out you are dead? Or would you just continue to receive the deposit every month and any authorized user of that bank account would have access to the money?

I was contacted by a representative of REEI, there are so many scams out there, I'm not sure what to believe anymore. There website is at REEI.com. He claims that you work one on one with a mentor (only phone and email assess), they had a good rating in the BBB but they still seem a bit shady to me. The tuition is quite expensive (form $585-20,000). It seems strange that they would not have the same tuition for everyone. He mentioned using your credit card to get the money to invest and then doing a balance transfer on the amount if the deal is taking longer than a month. I don't feel safe about this strategy or the tuition amount. What's your opinion? Has anyone gotten mentored by them?
