I've been keeping track of my checking account with QuickBooks, putting in every check I write and everything else.

I got my bank statement the other day, the dollar amounts match but the cent part doesn't it's like 20 cents off.

Should I not worry about it or what? What would you do?

1) What happens if you contribute more than 15k into a 401k limit (I am under the age of 50) ?
2) Does the company-HR automatically stop you from contributing or is the money taxed and then put into your 401k ?

I am rapidly approaching the 15k limit and I forgot to change my elections prior to 6/30 (our company allows changes only once a quarter). I sock away about $2500 a month into my 401k. (I started saving late)...

Further : If the answer to the question is yes to 1)...

3) What happens as it sits in the 401(k) ? How does IRS differentiate between taxfree 401k investment vs taxed 401k investment ? How do I keep track of it ?

I am a healthy 20 year old male... I have a wife, who is also healthy, that really thinks we should get health insurance... My work offers a decent plan for $300 a month... I think this money could be put to better use... a savings account or something. The problem is of course, emergencies. I've seen plans that cover emergencies but only like 80% and they have a high deductible/monthly payment. Any suggestions/ideas??

A parent who can't qualify for a loan gets the eighteen-year-old daughter to take out the loan (ultimately two loans) with a family friend as co-signer. Parent takes more than is needed for school and uses a lot of the money himself, but assures her that he will pay the loans in full. But, whenever he gets upset with her, he threatens to stop paying the loans (which she can't pay; she's just starting to pay off the other school loans that were going to be her responsibility).

Is there a way to get the loans switched to his name (with his consent) without applying for a new loan to pay of the existing two?

I have a major spending problem! Whenever I feel like a have a lot of money (after payday) I usually go out and go crazy with my debit card...( I love clothes and expensive coffees haha). I really need to save some money but I don't know how to stop myself from spending so much. I have tried the money in the envelope thing, it didn't really work for me. Anyone tried anything that really works for them?

So I work full time and a summer part time job in order to stock up some money for a down payment on a car that I must buy this fall. My boyfriend works 70-80 hours a week during this summer stocking up money for tuition to go back to school in the fall. We both have other bills (none credit card debt related so we are doing okay in that respect). However we just found out that we have to take on more bills that his parents were helping us with since he is a full time student, but now they (his parents) are having financial problems. Basically I am so emotionally drained from working 60+ hours a week and now I have even more financial stress headed my way. PLEASE any tips or tricks to help releave my stress would be grealty appreciated. No time for bubble baths, those are out....and I just cant think anymore..???

I need serious advise. I am 8 months pregnant. About to deliver in the next few weeks. My husband and I own our own business. Over the last few months, business has dropped considerably. We are lucky if he gets 2 jobs a week now and each job gives us about $300. We also have a 7 year old. We were just about living paycheck to paycheck before (we were able to save a couple hundred that we have since depleted). My cobra payments alone (to cover the delivery) are $400 a month. My mortgage is about $1700. Everything else is pretty typical. Utilities, food, etc. I've tried to cut down on the food but even buying ramon noodles and mac n cheese with some other basics is at least $30 a week. I have two credit cards but they only have a limit of 500 each. And both are at about 200. I've been putting the groceries on there. What would you do?

We're in the US and have relatives in the old country (Eastern Europe). I'm not much in contact with my relatives, but my wive is in touch with hers. ... mainly because of them asking for money. This time this lady is asking for money because one of her kids had to have major dental work. (that was the first story) But then we told her that my wife needs major dental work that costs 20 times more than what they have to pay and we just simply can't afford it.
Now she came back and she says that she needs money for food cuz she lost her job and her husband left her with 3 kids.
I want to help people who need help. We're not doing that great ourselves either, and I have this bad feeling about her and can't help but feel like if we send her money, we're being milked for cash and the little money we have that should be going towards getting us out of debt is getting wasted on God knows what.
What do I do?
