what happened is i was ran over by a drunk driver when i was 6 years old and the settlement payoff was 37,000.00 I was lied to and told I had 16,000.00 but i could not touch it till i was 18 years of age . when i reached 18 I had nothing left my mother had spent every dime so i was told on my living expenses i encored as a child

Talk to an attorney. I do believe they were entitled to it for your care since you were a minor, however, if they were promising a college or trust fund, that might be different.

As the other answers say, you should consult a lawyer. As a general rule, parents can't use their children's assets to pay for ordinary living expenses, but CAN use those assets for things like braces and summer camp. A lawyer could probably force your mother to account for the settlement money and whether is was used in an appropriate way.

It sounds as if your mother wasn't exactly honest with you about this money and how it was used. Still, raising kids is expensive and she may very well have used it to defray allowed expenses. It's in your interest to find out one way or the other. Otherwise this issue has the potential to ruin your relationship for the rest of your mother's life.

call a lawyer or an attorney as someone already said is it worth losing ur parents for? u may have to press charges if they will do anything at all for you. good luck just think before u react.

Simply put, you would need to contact a lawyer. Whether or not you can recover depends upon which State and all the other particulars.

Your mom was probably custodian for the account - so I doubt you can do anything. She could argue she used it to take care of you when you were younger.

contact an attorney, you may have to press criminal charges against your parents for stealing from you.

you may lose your relationship with your parents for 37k is it worth it to you?
