After 8 months of trying do get a business off of the ground, my husband has really put us in the hole. We cashed out all of our 401(k) and now have a debt of $30k. There is no more home equity to cash out and we haven't made a credit card payment since August.

My husband now works in the field he was in prior to his business but at a job he's overqualified for. He's been searching for a better job since May but nothing has worked out.

Credit Counselors say they can't help us until we have a balance budget. Bankruptcy Atty say they can't help us until we have a balance budget.

I've written to all the creditors explaining that we do want to pay off but we don't know when. It's all based on when my husband can get a better paying job. At this time we can pay our 1st and 2nd Mtg and truck payment.

He doesn't want to get rid of the truck because we use it so much. My car is virtually worthless. '99 with 80k on it.

I'm working a part time job, too.

What can we expect?

I am a student with about 3 years left of school before I start making money and I have some serious credit card debt! I owe about $12,000 to Visa and about $7,000 to AMEX. Most of that money has gone to tuition, books, & fees not covered by aid and loans.
I have been reading other post about this matter and am kind of confused. Should I contact the creditors before they go to a collection agency and try to work out some kind of deal (like litterally pennies on th dollar)? How long before they sell the account to collections? I want to call them tomorrow- I've been avoiding their calls like the plague! How do I clear this up? Can I?

I have no income but my parents offered to help as much as they can. If they take me to court what can happen (supposedly I already have a case number) since I have nothing and no income? I've heard some people say that when I call them I should say something like, "I'll pay you *** if you agree to take this off of my credit report." Can I really do that?

He collected the money from my mom's credit card for $106.66 dollars that he took out on the Dec. 22, 2006. I paid with paypal. Today is Dec 28, 2006 and I still haven't received my item. I sent an email to him already on Dec. 25, 2006. He hasn't replied to my email. What do you think?

I owe the bank $42,000 and they are trying to take me to court. I received a $50,000 check from a music firm in pakistan. The bank cleared the check in 2 days when I had $80 in my account - odd in itself - then 2 weeks later OFAC (US Treasury) stepped in and said they want to place a hold on the check - I had paid off alot of debt $42000 and the bank screamed for the money instead of working with OFAC - since then they insisted a promisory and a home lien.
Now after 6 months since deposit they are pushing to get a sale of the home - well - they are pushing for a default court judgement on the promisory - I have a 6 year child with serious aspergers syndrome (like autism) and it is not possible therefore for me to work outside the house. Are there organizations that can help? Any legal stance my lawyer should try? Does bankruptcy protect me? Will they send the sheriff to take everything I own?

is it true that by seeking information from various lenders on good rates for a car loan or personal loan your score won't go down and you won't have multiple inquiries?

Just wanted to ask if a merchant/travel agent is legally allowed to copy my driver's license and the credit card and keep? I recently did a large transacation of about a thousand dollars with a travel agent. After processing the payment, the agent took a copy of my driver's license and credit card with him. I was wondering if its legally allowed to do so? I was concerned he may post a transaction maybe an year later on my card, and I may be too busy to notice it. Is it all possible?

I received a letter from a collections agency a few days ago. The agency is trying to collect on an a ten-year old phone bill that is now in the hundreds of dollars.

The delinquent account has not shown up on my credit report and I have a very good credit rating. Some credit applications I submitted in the past have been denied citing "too many delinquent accounts."

I never knew about the old phone bill or I would have paid it off. Now I am stuck with the decision to pay the bill collector or forget about. What are the pros and cons of tossing the collections letter in the trash?

I attended a training school that is currently closed down and no longer exists. It has been 6 years since I attended. I am now getting calls from a collection agency that says I owe them money regarding the classes that I took at the school. The credit agency will not give me information about the classes that I took and the fees. The collection agency was very unhelpful with providing me informarion about anything. However they did have the last 4 digits of my SSN. What should I do for them to leave me alone and prove that I do not owe them any money nor do I want this to show up on my credit report?
