From the first credit check by a carloan lender until 14 days, only one inquiry shows up on your credit, no matter how many times your credit is checked.

any lender will check your credit before giving you a loan. The more places you go to, the more inquiries you will have on your credit report.

multiple inquires will hurt your credit bureau and stay on for 2 yrs. But if you have already had someone pull your credit you can shop for 14 days without the score changing due to excessive inquires. Auto related only this does not include credit card companies -

If you actually give them your SSN, they are pulling your credit, and it counts as an inquiry. Several in a few days are better than several in a few months-- supposedly they can figure out you are "shopping" and not trying to get 12 different accounts.
