When you are in commute, and there's traffic congestion on the way or something, and that's making you late.... Do you ALWAYS call your boss to inform him/her? Or can you kind of hope that the boss won't see you coming in late?

Have been working for company for almost 6 months. Coworkers making job unbearable. Have been offered other job and have taken their offer. They are allowing me two weeks before I start new job, but am afraid if I give notice that they will fire me and I need the money from my last week. I really am happy about the new job I am going to be starting, but I don't really feel I owe them notice considering the way they treat me here (unappreciative and downright rude to me). What do you think?

I am looking to transition into a new career path, but am uncertain about what best suits my skills. I currently work in the non-profit sector, but have continually become more jaded. I went to a liberal arts college, have extensive knowledge and experience in Asia (including fluency in two Asian languages), have good social skills and am creative. I am not very academic or agressive. Any ideas for what resources I can use to discover a career that suits my skills? Or ideas for what I can do as my next career?

I went for a 5 hour job interview today and I have NO idea if I got the job or not! There was a lot involved (role play, typing test, one on one interview etc). I didn't realise the interview would go so long so I didn't have any lunch beforehand. By the end I was barely functioning (massive sugar low)!

Do you find that you pretty much know whether or not you've got the job, or is it a mystery for everyone?

Btw, I wore a dress shirt w/ jeans to my interview...

does anybody have reliable data on this? how does the job market treat you when you're changing careers, especially when your background is completely different from the industry you want to enter, say, finance? and how does the market treat you if you try to offset that by getting a masters degree first, say, an applied masters degree?

I have been dealing with severe pain 4 years. I'm on disability. I'm wanting to work. The DVR people say I can't work until I'm off pain meds and I have pain under control is that true? But I don't think they are sure about that.
I'm on a new drug, and I can function and take the narcotic - which was not true of oxycontin.

I'm in training for my new HR Coordinator position, and I am shadowing the current coordinator while she conducts interviews. I've been asked before in my own interviews why I am leaving my current position, but I have never heard the coordinator ask an interviewee that. I was just wondering if that was the social norm, or if it's a major faux pas to ask that in an interview.

OK-here's the situation. The girl I work with was originally offered my position (a full-time position with higher pay) but she declined it because she only wanted to be a part-time employee. Then her husband died and she asked for more hours to keep her mind off everything, and now that she is working more hours and technically a full-time employee she is thinking to herself, hey, i should have just taken that position since i'm working anyway full-time. so now she's trying to get me fired by making me always look bad, making it look like i don't know what i'm doing and talking to my boss and coworkers about how I do everything wrong. she wants my job and it's so obvious. and on top of it all, she is so fake, you know always smiling and being all kind to me. ahhhh! what do i do?

Imagine that you can't stand your current boss. She's rude, offensive, a micromanager, and very inappropriate. She slacks off on her job and when things go wrong because of her slacking, she blames anyone nearby (the poor soul who happens to be nearby is usually fired).

So now you're on a job interview for a new/better job and the interviewer asks you a direct question about your current boss. How do you answer?

A. Tactfully express that you and she tend to not see eye to eye on things.
B. Straightout say that you hate her.
C. Lie through your teeth saying that everything is rosey and that you're only looking for new employment to broaden your horizons.
D. Something different

I work at Sobeys, a grocery store branch throughout Canada. I'm only just out of high school, still living at home, decided to get a job for pocket change, like movies, and stuff like that. Nothing major. Anyways, I got hired part-time, now they're giving me full-time hours. I feel so stressed out and tired all of the time, and my family, friends and girlfriend say they never see me, and it's true.

I just don't need the money. I talked to my manager last week and told her that I'm taking an online course, and I really don't need so many hours, and to bring me down to like 3 shifts a week, but ha ho, and alas, 40 hours this week, 5 days in a row. Like, there's no need of it. I just want some spare change...

I find it really unprofessional how they can't even work with me on this and how they're just assigning hours to me like my request didn't even matter.

Should I quit? If so, should I even give them 2 weeks? They aren't working with me so why should I work with them?

At this point, i might have to work at a restaurant. hopefully someone has some ideas...
