Wore a suit to the first interview, dropped it off at the dry cleaners and now I've been invited back for a second interview and don't have another suit to wear. What is another viable option? Khaki pants and a sweater?

The position is Help Desk Coordinator. I was told that I would be contacted early next week for a second interview. I did the first interview, dropped my only suit off at the cleaners today, and received a call at 6:00 tonight, saying they wanted to have me in early tomorrow. No time to pick up my suit at the cleaners.

Ask to reschedule to another day when your suit ready. If not informed them that you are in the mid of moving and you are unable to get your suit ready, ask them to excuse you on your dress code. Good luck to you!

If you are able to, buy or borrow another suit. Dress to impress. This interview determines if you will get the job and also what your salary will be. I have been on the other end, where I have conducted first and second interviews. I *do* notice what people wear and if it is a repeat of they wore, it does send a message like the person didn't put effort in and would that translate into if they would put effort forth on the job. I have also had at least 3 experiences with getting a higher than expected salary upon negotiation. I am sure it helped that I was wearing my best suit(s).

I would say that would depend upon the postion if they are going to require you to wear suits at the job I would get that suit from the cleaner or borrow one. If that is not the case then I would say dress pants and a dress shirt with a tie and sweater over or as is would be appropriate did you pay attention to what the interviewer was wearing or the staff in the office as you were walking in that might give you some clues. Good luck with your interview.

Hope you got the job!

Yes, khaki and a sweater are fine. You're in IT, right? (looked at your screen name :-) No one wears a suit for those positions.

EDIT: You should wear the clothing that you would normally wear for the job. The suit is nice for the initial interview, but now that you found out what the dress code is, you should follow it. Otherwise, it looks like you haven't caught on to what you've learned about the company. Go with the khakis and sweater!!!

Depends on the position ( which you did Not mention)
Go to the cleaners and get the suit back ,
Or get to the store if you only have 1 work outfit .
You should have 1 weeks worth of work outfits .

how long does it take a dry cleaner to clean your clothes? What else is in your closet? You don't have a second pair of great looking dark color slacks? You minds well buy another pair right now, stop off at Sears and pick up a pair of Hagar slacks in navy and wear a white shirt and a navy tie with navy or black shoes. no sweater

Go buy a second suit. If they are doing a second interview chances are good of them offering you the job and isn't that worth $150-200?

If you have a friend that is about the same size, borrow one.

Otherwise, dress pants, a conservative sweater, dress shirt and a tie should do the trick.
