I am currently in the process of changing careers & am quite lost as to what path I want to take. I have been offered a position with The Ritz Carlton, which promises quick promotion within the company. I have also been offered a position with a Metlife Insurance branch as an independent rep.
There are pros and cons to each job:
Ritz Carlton
Cons: Commute (60 Miles each way), Pay for Parking $12.00 a day, .50 paycut
Pros: Promotion Ability, Great Benefits, Travel Benefits (Room Discount), Good Company

Metlife
Cons: Questionable Upward Mobility?, Base Salary & Comission
Pros: Local, Flexibility (No Set Schedule)

I am just not sure which path I want to take and was hoping some people with more knowledge of each industry could provide some insight!

actually, one day my senior teacher asked the students if any1'll shift the school(this is a process after class10 as they prefer delhi schools over ours). so many students including me raised their hands.. after writing the names of all of us.. she told us that now she'll ask all teachers to cut our marks .
many of the students who were abt to leave the skool did'nt raise their hands..... now i'm feeling that by saying the truth i've kept myself in trouble.... but i'm a total truth speaking person...I HATE LIARS so i could'nt stop myself from saying truth. all my family & friends r scolding me for that...but i feel i haven't done anything wrong...still i am afraid of getting my marks cut.. as i'm in one of the senoir classes ,where marks matter a lot.
pls help!!!
also after that day that teacher has'nt said anything abt that..still she is very hitler type teacher.. so i'm scared.
also if u know any other method so that i can track her and after she cuts my marks i've aproof.

not too far away from the truth. The second company has a stellar reputation, excellent benefits -- the typical sweet benefits package. Both jobs it turns out are essentially the same - glorified receptionist/ office/property mgr jobs. The base salary for job A is lower than I'm used to, but includes the possibility to make a bonus and an apartment. Now I'm hearing horror stories about their apts and mgmt. I work there and I've seen some disorganization but no horr still $$$ maybe very high. Yet if we haven't even gotten started and I'm being slightly stiffed then who's to say where this whole thing is going? In initial discussions the job was to include higher pay, commission & an apt... now it's low w/ a capped bonus + maybe an apt depending on availability. Overall in terms of money, the offers potentially excellent but I was led to believe this job was a entry level sales position and it's just a glorified asst/receptionist/ mgr gig. That's two slight deceptions, isn't it?

my dad and his bro had this publishing company. they both died and the company is closed now. I used to work there but with no insurance. I have a first degree and several other certificates plus I have written 2 books (fiction). I am 35. now they call me to interviews and they are ready to hire me and the next thing I know someone else is. I think they are all afraid that being 'overqualified' is going to make me run away after a few months. not unlikely since these jobs were way lower than my abilities. I feel the urge to start my own job. am I crazy?

But because my friend had stolen a 50 dollar bottle of perfume as well.. i was not eligible for a probation sentence. Instead I was charged with a 1st degree misdemeanor. Will i be able to get that charge expunged off my record and also if it was to be expunged would it still show up on certain background checks?
thanks so much for your time.

My current job lets me do homework at work, but it's a terrible company to work for. Anyone know of any more that would let people do homework at work?

I'm seventeen years old and I am in a year round school program where I am required to work 6 hours per day and I have to finish all the textbook work (usually 500+pages) in three weeks, and then the cycle starts out all over again. I am now working at Ralphs and all that I have to say is that the pay is horrible and I'm on my feet all day bagging groceries and pushing around shopping carts. I'm too tired to do my homework after work; It's impossible to do anything else there since you can only work as a courtesy clerk if you're a minor. Then I start college in August (I'm a part-time college student and a high school student). My dad has just retired and I will be getting $500 a month. I only get paid $100 a week at Ralphs... not to mention once I sign with the Union (you have to, it's mandatory), they take out $30 from your paycheck, so I might be getting $70 a week. What should I do?

It's my dream to work at a tanning salon, lol; I just hate being out in the sun.

so I'm the new guy at a fast food place.
I make mistakes there.
But today, business was really slow and we were overstaffed.
there were too many people there and nothing for us to do, so I went and talked to some other people working there. 10 minutes there our co-manager told me and a different girl told us it was okay to leave 30 minutes early so I did.
I waited 15 minutes outside for my ride to pick me up, but as I was leaving, I saw that other girl still working in the shop.

since giving my notice they have started with the politics & have been talking to someone to hire in my place for months. All the while my boss is trying to suck every last drop of blood out of me. I want to take 2 or 3 days of my vaca. & say see ya sooner rather than later. How can I approach the subject with my boss so he signs off on my taking vaca. even though he's given me a mile long list of things to do before I leave? Should I tell him I had something come up & need to take the vaca.?

Just want to know others' experience to boost my hopes. I'll know whether or not I got the job tomarrow.

My school has really gone downhill and I can't stand it anymore. I am going to carry it out though, and (hopefully) get my A Levels, I've just done my AS levels. But, because I hate it so much, I really don't think I want to go to university anymore. I'd rather go out and work. I've thought this for a long time and now that I am actually having to look at and apply for universities I feel a lot more strongly about it. What jobs can I get (not like mcdonalds or anything) without a degree?

Recently I went for a job interview - the interview was arranged through an employment agency. I interviewed and was passed over for the job. No biggie.

But I was later told by my recruiter that the interviewer had a lot of harsh personal criticism of me as rationale for her decision not to hire me.

Although I was disappointed not to get the job offer, what really peed me off was what this person said about me in front of my recruiter because, while it's one thing not to offer someone a job, it's a whole different story to bad-mouth their character in front of a recruiter and (in the process) possibly sabotage their chances at future jobs that may crop up.

Was I within my right to write a letter of protest to the interviewer's manager?

I've been with a compnay for a couple of years now and am SERIOUSLY under paid, however I love the company and the people and am the best guy there. A friend of mine has an uncle that has offered me a job making over twice the money plus insurrance and what not for almost the same kind of work.

Do I quit the job I love with great people for double the money?

I want to become a college professor, and to do that you need a PhD. I just graduated with my BA, which is in a field that a BA is useless in (you need a Master's or PhD to work in this field). I currently work in retail and I plan to continue working there for the next 2 years so I can save up money and pay for the rest of my education rather than go now and get student loans and be in debt.
Everyone I know including my family keeps making me feel bad and saying stuff like I'm an idiot for working at a minimum wage job and they keep saying things like Why are you working a job that high school drop outs and 15 year old idiots have when you have a college degree. I'm getting really annoyed but unfortunately, cause they've been saying this for a while now over and over again, I'm kinda starting to believe it. Any suggestions or ideas on what to do to shut them up?

I worked for a major law firm in NY about 10 yrs ago. I had quit because my supervisor (female) was always in my azz about "something" - anything - even though my work was excellent, I worked late & wkends all the time & had no problems. I think she was jealous of me but anyway, I quit & tried to come back later but they rejected me. They said I "left them high & dry" - but at the same time, I got good letters of references from a top lawyer there and also from the manager in the MIS Dept. Now I want to apply for a job in one of their offices in another state but I'm afraid someone in the NY office will try to sabotage me. I never did anything to jeopardize my job when I worked in the NY office but I believe a few people there was jealous of me when I worked there & they always found a reason to approach me about something insignificant.

Does anyone think I'd have a problem if I applied & got a job in one of their offices in another state? Is there a way to ensure I'd be secure if I worked at that firm again in another state? Or should I stay away from that firm altogether?

I have a problem sticking with jobs. I always quit them after a month or two because I hate them. The longest job I've ever kept was 2 full years, but quit it to attend college. Then throughout college (about 6 years) I lived off of student loans and credit cards, got 1 job my freshman year that I only worked at for 2 months, and another one my junior year that I worked for 1 month and the most recent job was last year and that lasted 2 months. I quit them after a month or two cause I'm the kind of person who will not stay doing something that I can't stand. I can't leave out all of those short stints on my resume cause then it will look like I've been unemployed for 6 yrs and if I do put them on my resume, nobody will want to hire me. I wouldn't even want to hire me! What to do. What to do??
Oh and don't say something like put volunteer crap on my resume, cause I didn't volunteer anywhere since that's not my thing either. I was in a sorority in college and that was pretty much it.
