My school has really gone downhill and I can't stand it anymore. I am going to carry it out though, and (hopefully) get my A Levels, I've just done my AS levels. But, because I hate it so much, I really don't think I want to go to university anymore. I'd rather go out and work. I've thought this for a long time and now that I am actually having to look at and apply for universities I feel a lot more strongly about it. What jobs can I get (not like mcdonalds or anything) without a degree?

These days going to university doesn't guarantee a decent job.

Absolutely, It's just impossible to find a job if you have no experience. I'm in the same situation as you, I've decided i don't want to go to uni and to get a full time job as an accountant. I have 5 good highers, including accounting, and there are a lot of jobs out there where the company is willing to trane the employee. The problem is, no one will employ me cause i only have 2 weeks office experience. I even went for a job as an office trainee, and apparantly i didn't have enough experience to learn! As if being at school for 13 years wasn't enough experience of learning!! I mean, how much experience do you really need to be able to do filing? I know the alphabet, what more do you need???

Yes .. many people who have not been academic achievers, for whatever reason, have accomplished great things in their lives. You have heard of The University of Life" and we all attend that establishment. Do what makes YOU happy be it building, VSO, travel (Mc Donalds is OK if funding current travels.. because they are all over the world) There are lots of jobs out there, some employers will help you achieve vocational qualifications and it is always possible to go to Uni. as a mature student or study with OU part time whenever you choose. Live YOUR life and be happy.

You can do anything you want. I have no 3rd level degree and started working in bars when I was 17. I have since bought a bar and am trying to buy another one abroad. When a lot of my friends finished 3rd level I had 5 years experience and a good job, many of them were not working. Work hard and be keen, even in a "dead-end" job and you'll go far.

I left school with no qualifications and went to work in a factory, good money, fair conditions but a rubbish job, pushing buttons all day making compact discs. I worked there for 15 years before I gave it up. I had already been to college part-time whilst working and when I gave up the boring job I went to college full-time and then on to Uni, I graduate on Wednesday and I start at St. Martins in September on a PGCE Secondary course.
At college I did the Access course, I believe that it better prepared me for Uni than any A-Levels could have. At Uni I was better prepared than the former A-Level students as the method of teaching was closer than it was on the A-Level courses. If you become disillusioned with your school I recommend you look up the Access course at your local college, it certainly helped me.

A degree does not make a person, a person makes a degree..........

In other words its you that counts and what you do must make you happy. I worked for a 6 figure salary and never went to Uni, but i was unhappy. I now work in a job that pays much less, I am very happy. A decent job is one that you like, money shouldn't come into it.

Live for life and not for work.

unfortunately it is harder and harder to get a job that will support you with out a degree. The ones that are out there are usually hard work. Post Office which is hard to get into, UPS temp jobs pay well but no benefits so you won't have health insurance stuff like that does not require a degree

p.s. You can still keep your current job, while working part time; this could become a well paying full time job if you are a fast learner and good honest worker.
