Bank teller skills are generally ONLY cash handling not balancing and using accounting principles. If you have had Accounting I or Accounting II then you will have a better understanding of the job responsibilities of an accountant. Once you have an understanding of the function of an accounting, some entry level accounting jobs are Accounting Clerk, Accounts Payable Clerk, Accounts Receivable Clerk working towards Full Charge Bookkeeper. These positions will get you involved in the Financial Statement and Balance Sheet preparation phase and business function.

My recommendation, take the 2 courses FIRST as these two classes will really prepare you for a career in accounting. If you do not enjoy the classes you will not enjoy the career choice.

Hope this helps,

You get an Associates Degree in two years and a Bachelors Degree takes four. A BA is better than an AA. If you have a BS degree, that is the same amount of schooling as a BA, but it is in a different area. BA stands for Bachelor of Arts and a BS is Bachelor of Science.

You may want to give some thoughts to trying a season as a tax preparer. I don't have an accounting background but in my tax classes at H&R block were a number of college students taking the class for both internship credit and a paycheck.

Email me, or review my other answers if you want to know more details about my experiance working at a tax preparer.

A bank teller job wouldn't give a very broad look at accounting. You might look for a job as an accounting clerk.

Good luck.

I would get an internship with a CPA firm and than you could determine if you like the job. I am a CPA and an accounting degree is very marketable, so good luck. Ask your college placement office if there are internships or part-time jobs available at a accounting firm.

why don't you try a career as a loan officer since you're good in numbers?.. it's ot a fulltime career anyway (unless you choose so) so you have time to study too..
