I am a college student in Louisiana, and I was wanting to know what educational expenses I can write off on my taxes. I bought a $1500 laptop this year, and I have proof that I am required to have it for my computer science major. Also, I have receipts from textbooks I have purchased this year that total up to about $500. Can I write these things off on my taxes?

I get paid bi weekly, each check consists of 822.63.

This is how each check is broken down:

1st. 822.63-Cell phone (90.00)-Insurance (154.00) Gas (80.00)

2nd. 822.63-Rent (100.00)-Car payment (350.00)-Gas (80.00)

These are my two credit cards and corresponding APR rates

Capital One - $782.19 0%APR until May 2008, 8.9% after that

Credit Union - $3490.69 16.9% APR

Now I ONLY have this amount of pay until March 24,2008. At that time I will not be working Full time any longer. So I have my next check that I will get on the 31 of December, and then only Until March 24,2008. My holiday shopping is already done!

PLEASE ASSIST with the most productive way to pay off my debt. I need to pay off as much as I can until March 24 2008. If anyone can assist with there opinions, that would be most helpful. Thank you!

I found a a fraudulent account on my credit report. Challenged the claim and the file was removed from my credit report. Now I am getting calls from a company called Tri-Financial out of New York state. They are a collection agency that has this fraudulent account and they are trying to collect. Here is the real problem: Since I stated that the account was a case of fraud they are claiming that they can claim fraud against me and they are going to file fraud charges with the district attorney in my county. I get calls stating a fraud case has been filed then I get more calls stating they are about to issue a warrant for fraud. Personally, I think this is a "scare tactic" they are using to attempt to collect on this account.

My question is...can they really file fraud charges or is this a scare tactic?

I'd like nothing more than to tell them to take their scare tactic and shove it.

I've been living in an apt. complex in Rockville, Md for the past two years. The apartment is owned by a company who owns other apartrment complexes(Equity Residential, to be specific). Anyway, after my first year of living there, they raised my rent by $20 per month, which is fine and expected. Well, this year, they decided to raise my monthly rent by $127.00!!! Can they do this? The average recommended increase for rent is a little over 5%. MY rent was raised by over 12%. Is there some way to fight this? I've been a decent tennant and always submit my rent on time.

A supermarket tells the public, that they interview and hire college students. That supermarket starts interviewing people for jobs, and a college student applies for the job. The college student qualifies for the job, and then they refuse to interview and hire the college student for no reason. If they say they hire college students, theres no need to turn down a college student for a job. A lot of the supermarkets by me do this all the time.

Is there a web page that explains, or does anyone know how I handle the second mortgage on a short sale? I've done a few short sales, but only with a 1st mortgage. I've tried a few with a second mortgage and I was told by the first mortgage, that the max they would allow the 2nd to get was $1,500. Another time, I was told by the 2nd that they wanted ALL of their money. They (HSBC) said that if they are going to lose out in getting paid, then why help the owner and out let the owner get away scott-free.

Yes, I know what I should be doing, but I hate it. It depresses me and I'm not very good at it. My stay-on-top-of-it skills are costing me money. I need someone to take over my budget and give me an allowance to spend. Make sure I am putting my money to its correct use and pay all my bills (even though most are auto-pay) I am admitting defeat... Who do I call?

It was suggested to me that I learn as much as possible about using MS excel and MS powerpoint. Most jobs that I have been researching require adm assistants and secretaries to have some experience or at least know how to use one or both. That puts me at a disadvantage because I only have experience with MS outlook and MS Word.

Does anyone know about legitimate free tutorials or programs online to learn powerpoint and excel??

Thank you

I live in the US, and most of my money has been in Internation Funds, as they have done really well the last few years. These funds invest mostly overseas, in growing economies like Europe, Africa, Russia..

Will a possible recesssion looming in 2008, I wonder if it's wise to remain in these funds, so they invest outside the US. Or if these funds have an equal or greater chance of crashing. I understand no one can truely predict it, but any somewhat professional responses and feedback are appreciated.

Currently i am stuck with a secreterial job ($12/hour ) for the payment for my car and insurance and my 2 credit cards which are in collections . My plan is to use the first few pay checks to start to payy off my credit cards ( clear up my credit soon )

and then pay off my car and insurance amounts. I graduated with a degree in electrical and computer engineering . I am planning to save up enough money so that in 1-2 months I will have enough money saved up and then I will apply for entry level electrical engineering jobs . I think I might have to quit my current job to start going for interviews because if not there will be tension between the employer and me I think .

Also I am working another part-time job just to make ends meet.

I am thinking once i get a job as an entry level electrical engineer , anywhere near by , I can use the saved up money to move to the new place and start my life there.
What do you think ?

I’d like your suggestions on how I should handle my 401k rollover. Some background info: I’m 23 years old and I left a company (I had worked there for a year) at the end of October. My 401k had a balance of about $4500, and half of that was the vested balance (does that mean I only have half to rollover?) I’m working at a new company and they allow us to rollover our 401k from a previous employer. Should I rollover my 401k into the new company’s 401k? Or should I rollover into an IRA? What are the pros and cons of each? If I rollover into an IRA, is there a certain type of IRA I have to enroll in? Typically, what types of fees are associated with having an IRA? My previous employer matched 100% to my 401k contributions, but my new company only matches 30%. This is a side question, but should I just not do a 401k with my current employer and, instead, enroll in a Roth IRA? Sorry if this sounds confusing. I’m just not sure what the best options are… any help would be great. Thanks!
