I work for a communications company and everyone claims that over-time and double-time hours are taxed at higher rates? I have never taken the time to sit down and run the numbers, so I decided to just throw it out there.

Thanks

my friend told me that the tax-return you receive from the interest payments you make on your mortgage, get included as taxable income in the next year. For instance: you get a tax-return of 7000 in 2007 from interest paments you made in 2006. that $7000 gets included in your 2007 gross income.

Is this true? And if yes, why because it doesn't make sense. I thought corporate dividends were the only thing that's double-taxed.

Thanks!

My son is starting work in the beginning of December. I will claim him on my taxes this year as a dependent. When he fills out the W-4 form for work should he put one or zero? The directions don't say anything about putting zero, but just putting one if no one else can claim you as a dependent. Are allowances the same thing as exemptions or dependents on tax returns? Thanks!

I live in Canada and was wondering if when you buy something from amazon.com is there brokerage fees, or does the seller pay them like they usually do on ebay. the reason I ask this is because The last 2 times I ordered something online, I got burned with 30 dollar brokerage fees. Christmas is coming up and I want to order stuff from amazon and I don't want to pay more than I would pay in a normal store due to brokerage fees.

I was hired part time by my current employer. I was told that after a few months I would become full time. He began scheduling me at least 30 hours for the first month, and in these last couple of weeks, has only been scheduling me under 10 hours.

Is this legal? I need many more hours than what I've been working in order to be able to afford my monthly expenses. I thought the more I'd work, the more hours I'd recieve. It seems to be moving in the opposite direction.

If you have an answers that hopefully involves legalities, please help me.

Thank you.

Okay, I've been trying to figure this out for months now. I know it's not that difficult of a concept, but I still don't exactly get how it works.

I know that tariffs are a tax on imported goods. So, from what I understand, the U.S. government makes the prices of products coming from abroad higher so that the products from U.S. companies are protected. If the government doesn't want people to buy stuff coming from abroad, why doesn't it just stop imports? Now, when an imported good is taxed, HOW MUCH is it taxed? (Again, I am just an idiot when it comes to this stuff.) Is an imported CD player going to be just a few dollars more expensive than one from the U.S. or something? I mean, wouldn't it have to be a hell of a lot more expensive in order to dissuade people from buying it? Also, does the U.S. buy the imported goods, and then try to sell them, or does the money we pay for the goods go straight to the foreign countries?

we have crappy linoleum in our apartment instead of ceramic tile which the other apartments have. we also have old, outdated and ugly couches when the other apartments have newer, nicer couches. our room does not look like the model room. is it legal for the landlord to do this? is there anyway we can get them to put in equally nice couches and tile? it's Arizona if that helps with the legal advice.

I've heard cases about when the bank takes over, sometimes the tenant gets money from the bank for moving expenses, security deposit, etc. It sounds too good to be true, but it comes from a reliable source. Does anyone know any details about something like this?

Does this have anything to do with stocks being a substitute for bonds and vice versa? Also, would you expect a stock to be a substitute or a complement?

I say substitute. Another reason I say that is because of the risk involved in bonds vs. stocks. With stocks at least you “own” part of the company in which you invested. With bonds you only “own” part of the debt and the company “owes” you because you lent them your investment. So, when young, bonds are a great way to go if you have time and money to be risky with. As people age and require more security, they can substitute the investment in bonds for the security of stocks. Not that either are 100% secure.

Is that accurate or false??? Thanks in advance...

I'm looking for some ways to make extra money for our family while I stay at home with our kids. I've run across someone looking for a home based typist. I must pay $10 for the training materials then I can earn $10-$20 per completed form. Has anyone tried this or know anything about it? $10 isn't a big deal to lose if it's a hoax, but I'd rather not spend it just to be taken. I would appreciate any information from someone who has "taken the leap". Thanks.
