I'm looking for some ways to make extra money for our family while I stay at home with our kids. I've run across someone looking for a home based typist. I must pay $10 for the training materials then I can earn $10-$20 per completed form. Has anyone tried this or know anything about it? $10 isn't a big deal to lose if it's a hoax, but I'd rather not spend it just to be taken. I would appreciate any information from someone who has "taken the leap". Thanks.

AVOID anything that asks you to pay ... go to www.guru.com or www.e-lance.com where you can bid on jobs as a home-based typist and it's free to register ... I think they do take a small % of the money you make - but after you've done a few jobs with a particular client, normally you'll end up working without the freelance website in between you, so you keep all the money.

Survey stuff is silly. YES you can make money from it ... but on average you're looking at being paid around $1 / hour. How many hours would you have to work at doing that before you'd make the money you need?

I'm on a couple of survey sites and I just use them as a way to treat myself ... in one account I've managed to do $70 worth of surveys this year. Which will get me a nice voucher that I can use to buy some christmas presents with. It's not live on money though ...

Paying $10 to "learn" how to transcribe surveys is a hoax. So is the purported $10-$20 for each completed form. If you pay the $10, they'd come back and offer you leads to companies they say will hire you for another $50.

Typing and data entry are common enough jobs that anyone who needed someone would hire them to come into the office to do the work. Any special training would be on the job.

Most surveys are already online.
