I want to start a pet waste removal service and I notice that other services advertised that they are licensed. How do I get licensed when I don't even know what kind of license I would need? Just a business license?

I have a little under $9,000 in credit card debt left and I had made a payment plan for myself that every paycheck I would put money towards it. During the summer, there was a lot of activities going on so I couldn't pay as much as I wanted to. I started off with $13,000 in debt in March '07. Am I really making progress? Should I be worried that I've been paying $200 less a paycheck than I wanted to these last couple months?

I think my ex employer who is actually the Government is providing any prospective employer with inaccurate information in their references. I have asked them to let me see what they are saying about me but they refuse.

Can I demand to see using for example Data Protection Act as they are disclosing things about me without my knowledge/agreement to a third party?

I have been in the technical industry for five years mostly as an independent consultant. I have been abruptly laid off and have been looking for work. One of my references has died recently and the other has retired. I have other references, but they aren't what the headhunters want. Is there a way to "cheat" here? Like pay someone to provide a reference? I don't want to have to do this, but I am suddenly broke and very desperate.

I've started a temping booking (as a medical secretary) in a private hospital working for 3 doctors. They want me to use my personal mobile phone so they can text me with queries, etc and for me to text them back. The thing is, I've been offered no money for these calls/texts I have to make to them. Are they taking advantage of me and is this legal in the workplace for me to do this on my personal phone? I don't know why they just can't contact me on the office phone or by email.

I live in NC and we will be moving soon. There was never any signed agreement, as we are renting the home from a couple. Even when I ASKED for a lease, their response is "Why do you need one?" Today I was speaking with one of the owners and I offered to help them repaint the home so they could sell it. (The previous tenants painted the walls weird colors, plus they have just gotten dirty over time). I explained that is the only wear and tear we have made on the house and we want to make sure we get our security deposit back. She basically said "No, I don't need your help. That's what the security deposit was for, to cover painting and things like that". Now, that infuriated me because when we first moved in, I had to clean the whole house because the previous tenant "had back problems" and couldn't do it herself. PLUS, we have had roof leaks that they won't fix and we have never had smoke detectors in our house. We feel that they are just trying to con us out of our money.

I joined the company in March 2007 and the company has the policy of doing a salary review for everyone in September 2007 and prorating the increase for new hires based on number of months they have worked before September.

My manager informed me that I was able to get a 4% increase. However, since I have been in the company only for 6 months, the % will be prorated and I will be getting a 2% increase. The next review will be in September 2008.

Though initially this logic made complete sense, on 2nd thoughts, I feel that it's flawed. Why am I being offered only 2% raise for the next 1 year even though my annual increase should be 4%.

Any thoughts on this?

Thanks

I have recently moved to Texas (about 9 months ago) from Mississippi and have been working steadily. I have to keep a permanant adress in Mississippi as I am still on my parents insurance. If my paychecks have my TX address on them will income tax be deducted for Mississippi? Or will I have to pay a lump sum at the end of the year? Or *crossing fingers* pay nothing at all? Also, what is my tax rate then? My salary is currently $35,360. Thanks in advance.
