my father-in-law and his girlfreind are looking into buying the house that's up for sale right across the street from my husband and I. My husband wants him to buy that house, however I'm not too fond of it. I would feel like I'd be living with them again, and always under sirvalence (in a way), and seeing them all day everyday. My question is this, I cant quite tell them not to buy it, but how can I tell my husband that I'm not too thrilled about it. We live in a brand new devopment, and its not even done being built yet, so why couldnt they buy elsewhere in the neighborhood, just not directly across the street. Any advice? thank you so much for your responses.

Recently I've been watching CNBC and during the last couple days they've been saying that trading curbs have gone in due to the volatility. What does this mean? What are the curbs?

I went into my branch of Countrywide in Ca yesterday and everyone was taking out their money because they said that the mortgage dept part of the bank was about to go into bankruptcy and the assets may be frozen. Cops were everywhere and alot of men in suits around. I was caught up in the moment and also took all of my money out...even though the bank is FDIC insured, I thought it may be a long time before I actually got it back so I got it now....Is the Banking system about to experience a crisis because of the bad mortgages? I was wondering where all of my deposits were being invested and it sounds like the banks used it to back mortgages...thoughts?

I know 2 people who have filled claims with insurance companies. One was over a year ago where he broke his bak and he got 80k and is back to work without any problems. The other one got his foot partially amputated and hasnt been able to walk since and his claim got denied because it was amputated enough. One cant walk gets denied and the other is fine but gets 80k. Does anybody else see anything wrong with that?

http://uk.news.yahoo.com/afp/20070818/tuk-britain-offbeat-telecom-company-bt-a7ad41d_1.html This is TRULY disgraceful,.. and all they did was APOLOGISE to her,.. if you ask me they should have given her free calls for at lest 6mths; it amazes me that this company has the blatant nerve to not only keep her waiting for that time, but to also JUST aplogise. it sickens me!
I left BT about 4-5years ago and have been REALLY happy that I did. They're the greediest, most scheming, lying, cheating, manipulative, scummy, low-life company besides the banks, (banks are MUCH worse!).
What do YOU think, should BT give this woman at LEAST 6mths free calls or a £#'s worth of free calls,.. and STILL apologise?

I live in North Carolina and have a few questions about filing taxes for 2007.

1) I know you can't claim exempt on the purchase price of textbooks, but can you claim the shipping and handling to receive and return the books?

2) I have a $2500 scholarship--do I have to claim that?

3) Can I claim daycare costs if it is a drop-in care for my taxes because of school?

4) I have already recieved the Hope Credit that you can only get once, but is there any other tax break offered?

5) I receive GI benefits---are these tax deductable and will I get some form in the mail for tax time for this?

6) I had to purchase a computer in June of 2006 for my online courses which I started classes in April of 2007--- can I claim the computer under school exspenses for 2007? If I can, where can I find information on that to show my tax person?

I think these are all the questions... I am a full-time student and do online courses. Thank you.

If I locked in a rate with my mortgage bank, get the commitment letter, and then the rate goes way down. Am I under any legal constraint to go through the deal with them if I find a better rate with another bank? Or is this more of an ethical dilemma?

I was told that I had to have PPI on my loan when I took it out 4 years ago with HSBC, and the cost of the PPI on top of the loan is over £8000 plus interest - I have insurance cover and told them I didn't want ppi. Then, without telling me, they reduced my overdraft limit and I went over my limit without realising, and my outgoings were more because I was paying them back, they started to charge me fees like £120. They just took the money out of my account without written notification. I reckon they have taken over £1500 plus interest out of my account since , I'm worried I won't get this back because of the current court drama and charges being put on hold.
I've asked in person for a complete list of all charges, and have asked them to refund the ppi - but I have never done this in writing. They keep fobbing me off, and staff told me I should open a new bank account elsewhere, as they can close my account. I have done this, but am nervous of finances now. What can I do?

I got married in Sept. 2006. My payroll changed my tax status to Married 1. I ended up owing the IRS in April, 2007. (My husband never changed his status from Single 1.) My accountant suggested that I file as Married, but withhold at a higher single rate. After a pay period or two, I noticed that my payroll dept. did not do this. They claimed that their paychex system does not have a check box for that option. They switched my status to Single 1. I feel that not only is too much money being withheld from my paycheck, but also, can't I get into trouble for filing as a Single 1 when I am married? Does anyone have any recommendations for how my husband and I should file? (Our accountant last year did a Married, filing separately return. My status was Married, 1 at the time. My husband was Single 1.)
Thanks.

please give me estimates. i'm planning on moving out on my own. The apartment costs about $550 a month for a studio. Electricity has to be paid by the renter (me) and I'm just wondering if I can afford additional costs. Hopefully electricity does not cost more than $50 a month or so.

The tenant had a will stating everything is to be left to a specific person. Shouldn't that person be given the key to get the items inside or does the landlord have a right to go in with the executor of the tenants estate and watch over them while they are going through things?
