I have been told, in the state of NJ, if a person is renting an apartment, they can stop paying rent, and if a child is living there, cannot be evicted. I find this hard to believe.

This is a hypothetical argument, not a real life situation.

I was always told that if you file zero on you taxes, that means that you are claiming "zero" and that they will take the most amount out of your paycheck so you most likely will not have to owe money (or as much) as if you were to file 1 or more. is that correct?

Before my marriage in 99, I worked at a small company making hardly any money. That entire year of 99 my ex-husband and I dated. He owned his own business. We were married in Dec of that year and filed together for the refund the following year using my social security number. Shortly after, I got a statement from the IRS stating I owed almost $18,000 and the IRS has been taking my tax refunds for almost 3 years now. My husband works for himself and doesn't even file so I'm left to pay the bill. Each year interest occurrs and it looks like I will never pay it off. I feel that since I did not work in his buisness or even know how much money I would be charged with, I feel like I shouldn't have to pay this money back. That entire year, I had nothing to do with his business even though I filed with him. Doesn't this seem unfair and how do I get out of this?

I got a letter from my health insurance carrier saying my coverage was being terminated as my employer did not pay the premium for the last three months. However, They have taken the premium's out of my paycheck every pay period and they show it on the check. The insurance company also says I will be liable for any services they paid for during this period. What can I do.

For our 2006 taxes we went to H&R Block as usual to file. Me and my BF have been together for 6 years and have 2 children together. We have always filed single and I claim as HOH and our 2 children. This year when we went to file the tax preparer was lecturing us how last year we should have filed married, filing jointly because we have been together for 5 years... when I asked her why she told me California's Common Law. She said we could be audited for our 2005 return. To make this story short we filed our 2006 taxes as married jointly in Feb 07', per our tax preparer advice. Anyways I've done my research and California doesn't have common law and I am soo pissed! I'm scared that I'm gonna get trouble because I took too long and didn't research this right away. Can anyone give me advice, and is filing the 1040X the right form I should use or is too late?

Creditors have increased my finance charges to the point I'm only able to pay on the %. Is there anyway I can settle. I don't want to make this a court issue. If I don't pay them what I owe will they take me to court. If I only pay them what I can afford will they try to garnish my wages? What do I do? Is there someone I can go to to work out a payment plan at what I owe now without charging more interest?
