Hi,

I got a message earlier and I just called back. It was my creditcard company! They were actually a lot friendlier than I thought they would be...and to think I've been avoiding them :). Well, they offered to lowere my intersest from 25% to 2%, which is really cool but I still can't afford to pay them. Then I said something that triggered the person on the phone to say, "Oh, so you want to settle?" Then he offered to cut my balance in half (this is a BIG balance), but there was a catch- I have to pay off the account in 4 months at $1500 a month!!! Anyways, sorry for the long story. Here's my question- Do you think they will go any lower? I mean, that was their first offer and if I can't pay it what options do they have? They're going to write off the account as a loss anyways and I know my account is insured. Also, if I do settle can they sell the remaining amount to collections? I feel bad, but it didn't help that when times got rough they jacked the interest rate way up.

I received a $30 check from Paul F Clem and Aaron P Clem in Santa Monica, CA and is from a JP Morgan bank account in Delaware OH. The check was processed from a payment processing cener in Phoenix. I have never heard of this person(s) and I don't know why they sent me this check. Has anybody else received something similar? It looks like a scam to me but I will really appreciate any help. Thank you

so when you get it, its time stamped and still sealed.

Im doing this because I have an invention idea but want to prove i had it first before talking to an invention company.

I've heard of something like "poor mans proof" or something like that.

Will this really hold up in court also?

I'm thinking of moving 16,000 from 401k to a Roth IRA. I realize I will have to pay $4000 in taxes (in cash--to avoid 10% penalty) to do so.

Do I need to covert to traditional IRA and THEN to a Roth. If so, is there a length of time it has to be in the Tradional IRA before converting.

And, finally...what i really want to know. How much of the 16,000 converted can i withdraw from the Roth without penalties? I know you can withdraw up to your contibutions in a "regular" Roth, but what is considered my "contributions" in this case?

BASICALLY -- can i turn 16,000 from my 401k into 16,000 in Roth IRA money and turn it into everyday cash to use?

I would like to take some money of out my 401k, but I don't want to do a loan.

I have this job. It is the best paying job that I have ever had,but they treat me bad. Last year I was a cleaner and they promoted me to reception, because a manager had quit they needed the girl at the reception to do the administrative work(she knew how to do it already)Then they hired a new manager and put her back on reception and put me back to cleaning. I was upset but I still did my job. Then the girl who was doing reception got sick so they got me to replace her. She was off for 4 mths. Now she is back she can't do the reception anymore and they are hiring someone else and putting me back to cleaning. I am so mad because nobody told me they had an ad on the internet I found out for myself that they were hiring for a reception? What do you think I should do.

I have been at my current job for a year and a half. I was transferred 6 months ago to another department and I believe I now have more responsibilities and duties, but I was not offered a raise at the time. I believe I deserve a raise now, but I heard from someone who worked here for five years that he never received a raise, but an increased Christmas bonus each year. Another employee is getting divorced and requested a raise to help support herself and she was told to get a second job - she is a loyal employee of four years. Should I ask for a raise?

I have a large credit card debt, but we've been renting for 6 years. We don't want to keep throwing away money, but is it really a good time to buy a house/condo when we will be struggling so hard to pay the mortgage? We also have a 2 year old.

I keep hearing businesses report earnings (or losses) with a disclaimer enumerating charges due to an accounting change. They claim that, technically, their net profit is better than it appears on the surface because of these one time (ostensibly artificial) "charges". I'm not an accountant, but this seems to defy logic; how can this always be a negative figure for companies that seem to do this every couple years?

Are companies not obligated to report an artificial gain from an accounting system change to the SEC, and if so, why does this never seem to be reported?

I'm not referring to writeoffs; I realize that companies play games with these all the time, holding or dumping them depending on their tax, dividend, and stock value situation
