The instructions on various tax forms seem to only be intelligible to accountants! Is there a reason why they just can't put everything into layman's terms?

He's a good friend, and a great manager. He's so so so stressed out right now from work, and a pregnant wife. We really want to do something nice for him. We want to make him feel better about life in general.

Ok.. so maybe this is a rant but I have noticed lately that MAJOR comanies are doing away with their customer service and taking a I don't care because if you don't shop here someone else will attitude...

I have encountered this at Wal-Mart (nixing their layaway), AOL (for any free subscribers) Paypal, Ebay, Yahoo, Apple, Kmart, Target, TJMAX, Kohl's, Marshal's, etc..

It used to be an irritation anly encountered with the Cable company, now it seems wide spread. It is so frustrating. You waste all your time emailing a problem to some nit wit who doesnt have an answer and then you go round and round in email hell. Makes no sense to me.

The allmighty greed is starting to tick me off!

Any thoughts?

When I did my w-2 that I was trying to file electronically, it said that I OWED $171. Which is odd to me seeing as I have never owed before, am not married, no kids, don't own a house, NOTHING. I made a whole $14000. I have two w-2 forms from two places I worked this year, and on one of them it says that I had federal income tax withheld, and the other one doesn't have anything. Could this be the reason it is saying I owe? And why would I even owe in the first place?

I claimed 0 and I work for JC Penny Inc.

My boss is inept and I accidentally make her look bad. I am a good employee but my boss keeps me from being promoted. I like the company but my boss is insane. She is well-connected and good at putting on fronts. No one knows she is this horrible behind the scenes. Advice?

I have worked at my current job for 2 years now, and I am the assistant to an administrator in a long term care facility. My boss and I have gotten really close within my time here. We work side my side together everyday, so we end up being each others shoulder to cry on occasionally. She has helped me through alot of my personal problems and has been very understanding. I recently married in October and had to relocate 45 miles away...about an hour away from my current job. Gas money and wear and tear on my car is really causing a burden on us financially. I have no choice but to find a job closer to home. I have a few prospects at the moment and one of them is really promising. I have not been offered a job yet, but I know that I will continue to look until I do. Is it a good idea to tell my boss and let her know the situation? I feel it is wrong not to tell her, but then alot of people are telling me not to. What should I do?

When asked about a manager who tends to profusely publicly complement his fellow minority employees while relatively relatively inaccessible to others, rarely complementing them and aggressively avoiding acknowledging their work, IBM executes answer that "it is not discrimination, just bad business." Is this a load of hooey or is it a true and sound statement. If someone aggressively avoids acknowledging hard work in any tangible meaningful way of some and aggressively puffs others is it a difference without a distinction to say its not discrimination, it's just bad management

seems to me of late IBM executives are increasingly willing to sweep their mess under the rug instead of deal with it

I am tenents in common with a "friend" on a house. (50/50)(Calif) We are renting out this property. My "friend" has decided he wants to move into the house. Can he give the current renters a 30 day notice without my permission? I do not want him to move into the house, and would rather keep the renters. My name is on the month to month lease agreement with the renters, we own this house 50/50 together as Tenents in Common. I have given a counter to the evition notice that he has served the renters, and stated that he can not give notice without my written consent. Am I correct in this? Any advise on this subject would be greatly appreciated.
