We have a similiar situation with spanish speaking employees here, but no raise would be considered.
Still, if your assistant manager thinks it might be a good idea, it wouldn't hurt to try.
If you ask, go in armed with a written statement from your assistant manager, the amount of times you've interpreted in the past month or whatever, maybe if you could get some good comments from someone you've helped - things to make your boss realize how valueable you are at doing this.

The best way to get a raise is to show why you deserve a raise.

When you were hired, you did X. Now, through the initiative you are showing, you are doing X as well as helping those who don't understand english, which makes you and the store better to shop in as well as more efficient.

The key is to know how much of a raise to ask for. You can usually find this information on Salary.Com.

Getting people who can do more than they are hired for is always a benefit to a smart manager, and you sound like someone who fits that description.

Good Luck.

It depends on how long you have been working there, but it can never really hurt. They cannot fire you for asking for a raise, and if you are a valuable employee you will probably get it. A vast majority of the time a manager or boss won't offer you a raise...so you have to ask.
