How can I become a freelance editor for people's manuscripts. And how much do most editors charge?

Editors in my area charge by the hour or the page. The preference would be yours. Depending on the length and the ability of the client to pay; for manuscripts I charged by the hour. That's how I was charged for my manuscript. Each session was an hour for a professional editor and they charged me between $80-100 each session, depending on how much material we covered that day.

A good way to start is to create a web page in Word; this is possible. Incorporate whatever theme images that you'd like to make it not only impressive, but also remember to keep it professional. In established companies, if you've noticed, they stick to the theme. The colors can be those of your choosing, but my only suggestion there would be to keep it business-like or they may not see it as a professional organization.

Hope this gives a little insight. Try going onto other websites of publishing companies and take note of the images they present to the public.
