My sister lives in housing in Illinois. Her lease states that they must give 24 hour notice to enter her apartment unless it is an emergency, but they do not abide by this. She will come home to see a note on the counter from maintenance saying they had been inside for this or that. At a recent meeting the head of maintenance was asked about this, his exact words were, "living in housing the residents have no privacy" This appalled me, I dont care where you live you have a right to have the landlord abide by the terms of the contract. What recourse does she and the other tenants have?

A high gas tax would be an incentive to conserve gas and oil. THis would help kick our dangerous oil addiction and total dependence on very unstable and nations that hate us. So would you welcome a federal gas tax of $2 a gallon if in turn income taxes were reduced by an equivalent fiscal amount? After all, high income taxes just discourage entreprenership and business incentive.

I am currently a college student. I am soon going to a temp agency for work. However I was wondering if there are any work-at-home job opportunities available for me. Some entry level work that is not a scam or whatever. Currently the most I have planned is to set up a site where I do art commissions/ sales.

I have a business with a very high debt structure, and we do not have enough cash to pay the bills. I have had no luck selling the business. We (my partners) mortgaged homes in order to finance the purchase of the business. The seller also gave us a deed of trust. In order to relieve some of the debt, we have placed our homes up for sale, but the real estate market is in the tank and we can't sell the homes. We have sent a letter to the seller asking for a 66% reduction in the loan balance, but no response. We have stopped making payments on the seller's note, and have been threatened with foreclosure. This is a complex situation. Thank you to anyone who has suggestions to help.

I have been left to do the bookkeeping for a company after their bookkeeper left. I'm kind of new to this, so this is a bookkeeping question: I have posted some receipts for office expense, i.e. postage reimbursement that our bookkeeper paid out of her pocket while delivering mail. These were debited to postage expense and then credited to an Accounts Receivable in her name. Now the company needs to reimburse her for these expenses. After I write the check for the balance in her accounts receivable check, to what account do I post the check, to office expense? Are there any additional general journal entries that need to be made? I am working on this today, so I have no one else to ask. Help!

I am planning on filing Head of Household and claim my children from my first marriage, and letting my husband (we are separated – he lives next door with his mother and I live in their rental property. Son spends more of his time there.) claim Head of Household with our son since he is the one who financially support our son mainly. My monthly income is child support from 1st marriage, and my income is only about $600.00 bring home a month. I am planning on using my refund check to get my own checking acct. and one of my questions is, can we both have our refund checks direct deposited into our existing joint acct. (Since our refund checks will only have one of our names on them.) Then close that acct. and each open our own? (I get so worried one little glitch in a delay of a deposit or something will reek havoc with my very tight budget.) We still have a joint acct. and I have no access to it (by choice) and he gives me my child support payments that are direct deposited into it.)
