My company updated their employment agreement which includes an updated non-compete and other tidbits. They've done it once before only this time they are paying employees they asked to sign the new one $1,000.00 to sign it. Is this to protect themselves by making it a contract where "goods and services" are exchanged as opposed the usual one where we all sign away our skills, abilities, brains and ideas without getting anything in return?

My niece lives with me for free she does not even help to pay for rent nor utilities. All of a sudden she has become boy crazy and she wants to move out. But she does not have credit nor a job to get an apartment. He parents live in a different country and they would want me to assist her with getting an apartment. Her parents have been very helpful to me in the past and they expect me to return the favor by signing the lease in my name for their daughter. If you were in my shoes what would you do?

so if you can write a house off of your taxes...from strictly a financial point of view, would it be better to make a small down payment on a home and pay for it as you can(with interest), or to save for a few years and pay for it all up front?

I am 21 years old and I invest in mutual funds and some stocks. I have about $2500 invested in my personal portfolio and I also invest 8-10% of my income to my 401K. I am going to school full-time during the morning and afternoon and then I work full-time at night. I do not make a very high income due to flexability etc. I hate my job but I'm just using it while I get through college. I have about $600 in debt on credit cards and I am slowly trying to pay them off. I do about $50 every pay check and I am trying to be as frugal as possible. I am wondering if anyone has any suggestions on whether I should sell off some of my personal portfolio to pay off my credit cards or should I leave it and continue to earn dividends and interest. My original plan was to keep it in for long term gains. Any advice would be appriciated!
