can i have usps hold a package and not deliver to me?

i wanted to buy an item online but i'll be out of town a little over a week, the item is limited so i want to buy them now, what i wanted to know is if i could have usps or any other delivery service hold the items until i return then i could go and pick them up?

You might be better off asking the seller not to ship until xxxxx.

You can but they will only hold it for so long before they send it back...
