Considering that EVERYTHING we buy has added VAT, what is it that is being paid, on top of the goods' value?

I recently noticed on my bank statement that my hairdresser charged 20% more than my bill. When I called I was told by the receptionist that some credit card companies do that to make sure that there is enough funds in the account to cover the charge, and once the funds are transferred the additional 30% would be released. When I called my bank, they told me that they don't do that, the business where I used my card did it. Who's lying? I want to know if I need to find a new hairdresser or a new bank. I have the 20% back, but no one should have the right to put a hold on my money without notifying me. Thanks!

Credit card debt adds up to about $21,000 and the only thing I seem to be paying is late fees and interest. I do nt see any hope because I'm still in grad school and can't work a second job.

The stench of a pig who's nose is so deep in the trough, they have no time to come up for air.

Yes, mergers are GOOD! They increase the price of the product to the customer by creating monopoly's, just like when several of the oil companies mergered while gas was $1.29/gallon...and now it's double.

Most of the surveys, etc. are supposedly free but then you have to select one or more products to try and give your credit card number. That is why I don't do those. I go through all of those lists, just to find that at the end of them, that I can not work or do the work, unless I purchase a product. How does a person avoid this? It all seems like a scam.

I checked my credit score about a month ago on freecreditreport.com and my score was 665.
This month I apply for a loan to purchase a home and because I had 2 credit cards almost max out my credit dropped to 590 (that is the score that the loan officer told me I got).
I already fixed this problem ... I paid almost half of the balances on both credit cards.
I would like to pruchase a home as soon as possible. How long should I wait to see my credit score go up???
Do I need to do something else.
Your advise is greatly appreciated.

My best friend got a job as a personal assistant/secretary at a small company. The guy has two openings, and I am in desperate need of a job. However, after my best friend's first day at work, they went back to his place. You know. Well, my best friend and I are very open with each other, and we were mentioning a threesome (not seriously debating it, just mentioning it between ourselves) and I think she might have said something to him? It is after office hours and he just called to see if I wanted to come for an interview tonight. I don't want it to be awkward so I told him I could be there as early as 7am tomorrow morning. He said "if you are still inerested in the position we need to meet asap because I need to fill it." I told him again I could do it whenever he wanted tomorrow (during normal hours) but now I'm worried if I go he will hit on me and ... you know, just an uncomfortable situation. Should I just not go at all and avoid it? Or go and see if maybe I'm just over reacting?
