I had notice today that a cheque for ten pounds was being returned to the recipient due to insufficient funds in the account. For this a charge of thirty eight pounds has been levied. I am mistified why this sum is so extortionate, do banks pay there staff so much they have gotta charge this fee or is it the post costs them more. Any ideas?

Should I change jobs? I work as an insurance agent making only $10.80 after 10 years? My boss is cheap! We have 20 year old phone systems, broken office supplies, etc.. I could earn $12.75 starting out and $15 in 3 years at a very reputable company. I think that's pretty good money but I'm scared I will have a hard time learning something new after so many years. Also I work in an office with 2 other ladies (one of which is very attached to me). I think she might freak! How can I break the news to her gently?

For my entire career as a contractor, I have worked on a W-2 basis. Recently, I was offered a contractor job, but they will hire me only if I agree to a 1099 basis. As someone who has never dealt with this form of compensation/tax before, what are some things that I need to consider if I accept this job? For example, how much paperwork would I need to fill out for tax purposes (mileage, business lunches, business travel, etc.)? Also, if they do not withhold any taxes from my paycheck, then what percentage of my pay should I set aside for tax season?

Thank you.

though I don't mind if it involves travel. I have no debts and have an income from investments so maximizing income is not my priority. I am highly educated with a wide range of experiences though English is the only tongue in which I am fluent.
Any suggestions would be most welcome.

anyone every realize that bosses are getting more and more childish?? like mine for example, he left for a week, and we had no way of contacting him if there was a problem, so we had to use our own judgement, but our jugdement was wrong, so now he's going into a fit and wont talk to us for a few days...he's only going to be here for 3 days, and then gone again for 15...now what, just sit here and do nothing since he's not going to be here???

For those people who think that they have reached their success, please share your experience.

What kind of Job did you have when you graduated from the university?

I graduated in 2005 with a degree in Finance and have been working in an investment company since then. Despite the good people, opportunity to grow, salary, incentives and benefits, I realized that this is not the kind of job that I’m interested and have the passion for- without that factors, it’s difficult for one to excel. I’m interested to start my own business than to earn from paycheck to paycheck.

Question: Is it a wise decision for me to quit the job and pursue my interest (despite the fact that I don't have any definite plan for my next move?)
What worries me is if I were to continue staying at this job while deciding what my next move will be, in 5 yrs, I see myself still deciding on my career path.

Serious answer only, please.

Some friends and I got together and started talking about this one and realized that at least for the three of us haven't been able to break out of the track that our first high school job put us on. I was in retail and still am despite having a degree and management experience. Another friend is trapped in the food industry. Still another, in secretarial work despite a masters degree in business management. Are we doomed by our first job I ask you?

If I want to exchange large amounts of Pakistani Rupees into British Pounds and vice versa (without having to send the money to a foreign bank account), how do I go about doing so? Can you recommend any services, banks or building societies that offer this? I've tried Nationwide Building Society but they tell me that they do not handle Pakistani Rupees. Please help!

I am looking for some rule-of-thumb information for expectable advertising revenues for a consumer-oriented, medical website. Banner advertising can be quite well-targetted within the site. Advertisers will include pharmaceutical companies, medical product companies, hospitals, other medical facilities, physicians, and health insurers and related health financing companies. I'm looking to get a rule of thumb approximation of expectable advertising revenue per user or per visit perhaps with a low-medium-high range, as different sites will of course be able to charge higher rates than others.

I bought a house in my name and now my realtor said that my husband is on the title as well. How can that be as I only used my name and credit to buy the house. We set up a trust for the kids a while back that had him listed and the house was supposed to go into the trust if we both die. Do you think that could be why she says he is on title? Can it be reversed and just put back in my name?

In order to make a decent living, I can't stick around in my tiny home town, and I'm REALLY tired of my college town. I'm thinking of moving to either Orlando, Atlanta, or Houston. The only problem is, I don't know anyone there. At first I was all, "nah, I don't care," but as the time comes for me to make my decision, I grow more worried about that aspect. I've never been anywhere where I didn't know ANYBODY, and I'm not all that great at making friends. The thought of being all alone in a big city is kind of intimidating. If you've ever been in this situation, how did you cope? What did you do to not feel so alone?
