First, make sure that you have submitted your URL to the search engine. It takes a while, even a couple of months, for some search engines to put a website in their database.
If the go to the search engine and type your URL or company name -- and it doesn't show up, chances are the search engines havent included your site as yet
To verify whether the search engines already have your site, type the following commands
Google = site:www.yourdomain.com
Yahoo = site:http://www.yourdomain.com
If typing in these commands show nothing, then your site is not yet in their system. Wait for a few more days and try again

Not sure of what your question is but here are three answers:
1) If you put your URL in your browser your site will come up.
2) If you type your URL in a search engine and your site isn't listed, you haven't been cached (also called indexed). You need to submit your site to each search engine (normally free). After you have been crawled (spidered) by the SE's bot (i.e. robot or spider), your site will be indexed.
3) In a SE, doing a search for whatever your website does, your position (once indexed, of course) is determined by that search engine's algo (algorithm).

Have whomever set up your site to add keywords to the META paragraph of the code.
The Meta is a few lines added to the beginning of the code containing words and phrases that relate to your site's content. For example, if you sold motorcyle parts and accessories, your meta would include things like:
Motorcycle, parts, accessories, custom, bike, hog, chopper, leather, drive chains, easy rider, helmet, saddlebags, handlebars, spokes, rims, foot pegs, forks, decals, road trip, route 66, tanks, tools, transfer cases, trailers, Harley Davidson, Kawasaki, Yamaha, Indian, Honda, BMW, BSA, Vespa, scooter, mo ped, tattoo, body art, tats.
You add anything that MIGHT relate to motorcyles, no matter how remote. You never know how somone looking for information will phrase his search. The meta allows the search engine to more easily find sites with the RELEVANT words and information. The sites with, either the MOST relevant words, or the words most closely matching the search to come up first.
