I am an African American woman with short hair, i.e. Nia Long, and I miss my chin length hair. I want to grow it out, but when it gets to the "in between stage", those who have or had short hair, no what I am talking about, I give up hope and

I'm thinking about putting dreads into my nipple-length hair, as it is a pain to deal with, as I really only have the time to wash it once a week or so. I'm uncomfortable with the idea, as I have never lived through 'dread' - no-one has ever put me or my middle-class white family through slavery.
