We would like to take group pictures at a public beach in Los Angeles County in celebration of a wedding but we don't know whether we have to contact someone or petition for something. if we do, where can we get the information?

I am currently pursuing photography as a hobby and I am interested in possibly a career. I would like to have a camera that would be reasonable for this. Anyone involved in the industry, what cameras are used? Does it have to be film? Because I prefer digital...Also, in general, what is the best camera, preferably digital?

I'm new to the SLR world and have been having so much fun with my new Cannon Rebel Xti. I'm feeling comfortable with the manual settings now, but am still having trouble with getting the colors the way I want them. Either I'm over-exposed and bright colors wash out, or I'm under-exposed and color looks dreary. I have the amazing book "Understanding Exposure" by Bryan Peterson that has helped tons, but I'm wondering if there's a better book that might help me with my dilemma. Is my shutter speed wrong? ISO setting? Aperture? All of the above? Any tips or references will be greatly appreciated!

In an effort to attract users to an area of my site, I decided to sponsor a low budget and very simplistic photo contest. So far, not a single entry.

I was wondering if anyone here would know be willing to offer advice on finding entrants?

HELLO!
Okay, I know I ask too many questions about photography, but I'm getting frustrated.
There's this 16 year old photographer from Canada that I really admire, and I have the same exact camera as him. Well, I try so hard to take really good pictures like him and I can't do it. I know he uses photoshop sometimes, and so do I, but I'm still not satisfied.
Here's some of the pictures that he's taken (first two are him, the 3rd one is a picture of his sister):

here's a picture of me attempting to look like his pictures:

If you have any suggestions as to how I can make my pictures look more like his, I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks a lot!

Does anyone know of any tutorial link or any other way of determining if text is fake in a photo, or if it really was there. The text is on a piece of plywood, and I can't prove it is real or photoshoped in. I have photoshop so I can use that program to determine but I dont know how. Help?

What distinguishes an artist from a technician? Which is a photographer?

Does the artist create beauty where none existed before, while a photographer just identifies and illuminates beauty that was already there?

When I say "artist" I mean somebody truly creative, not just a painter who records what he sees, or *shudder* mass-produces illustrations of cottages surrounded by flowers, and in the case of Kinkade, agrees to paint a picture for you with colors chosen to harmonize with your room's furniture.

Poets and musicians produce beauty and are also artists in the sense that I mean to convey, the ability to create beauty.

Bitmap, RAW, JPEG, TIFF, GIF, & PDF.
I know that they all can be used t osave and display pictures.
So why is it that DIGITAL Cameras
usually use RW, JPEG or TIFF(?)?
Also are there other formats to save pictures in?
Thanks for any help that you folks can provide.

There is this quote I love, but there is no poster of it anywhere. Is there some way I could provide a place like Kinkos with a 5 megapixel pic of a sunrise I have on my camera that they could expand and imprint my quote on it? Do you know if that is possible? Or maybe they already have some posters of sunrises and they could imprint the quote on one of those 'sunrise templates'? Does anyone know what places can perform such a service?

I plan on using it when I go hiking and on road trips to take pictures of landscapes and wildlife. I want to learn how to use the manual controls, so that I may create more artistic photos than can be created with a point and shoot camera. Some day, I would like to be a pro! :-)

Please recommend a name and model number.
Also, tell me why you recommend it.

Thanks!
