Stock photography does indeed require a lot of photographs. I just recently got started with the photostock industry myself and it's pretty fascinating. Just do a google search for "photo stock agencies" or something to that affect and you will be amazed at how many there really are.
Look over the websites, make sure they are legitimate, and they start submitting your pictures. Most sites will have you sign up and then submit 3-10 images to see if you are what they are looking for and then you either get accepted or not.

Some good sites are:
www.luckyoliver.com
www.stockxpert.com
www.freerangestock.com
www.corbis.com
www.fotolia.com

Good luck!

Stock photography requires a lot of images to get started. I would say no less than 50,000. It also takes a long time before you see you 1st money. I would start out as a wedding photographer. You can also work as a stringer for your local newspaper.
