In an effort to attract users to an area of my site, I decided to sponsor a low budget and very simplistic photo contest. So far, not a single entry.

I was wondering if anyone here would know be willing to offer advice on finding entrants?

The url is here: http://howto.netmorale.com/viewforum.php?f=28

Ok, let's start off by ignoring the shmucks above me. Once that is done, we can focus on what you really need to do.

First of all - in order to get known you have to effectively market your product or service. Posting one blurb on some no-name website isn't going to help. You need to advertise on multiple sites that cater towards your service. Find other sites out there that are specifically for photography and forums of the such and post there.

Second of all - you need to create a clear representation of rules and agreements. Saying 'no porn' and 'no child porn' isn't enough. Define what you mean. Create a list of rules and guidelines that must be followed.

Thirdly - when targeting specific sites, target sites specifically to your target audience. Who is this contest mainly for? Amateurs... Professionals... Anyone with a camera? From the sounds of it, you are looking at the latter user. So, look at sites where people do photography more as a hobby.

Fourth - create your own individual site for something like this (or have someone help you) and link people to that. No one will take it seriously if they have to visit url.longurl.domain/longername/myname/forum/page.php. However, if you advertise a site like myphotoentry.com they are very likely to take it serious and not believe it to be a scam of any type.

Those are some basic guidelines. If you want more help and are truly intersted, email me (chris@wise-photos.net) and I'll be more than happy to help you out more. But remember... MARKETING is the key to a failing business or a striving business.

I don't know but here are my views!
first off your talking about this photo contest!
What have you done to make it known to artist? have you posted flyiers in school? have you posted in forms on DA? or other art sites!
Advertisting comes with EVERYTHING!
and you need some sort of attention getter weather it be the prize or some sweet title to the contest!
EG: Spring Fling contest!
Do you got what it takes to FLING this photo???
if so you could win a Dollar bill!
That's right ! FULL DOLLAR or 4 quarters!
Make it fun if you don't have a large prize!
then put at the bottom of the flyer something like
this is for the strong minded who love to add stuff to there portfolio! if you want to add the professional appeal!
Best of luck!
try local radio too!

You need a theme for the contest that would allow people to understand where you are going with this - copy statement as well - a hundred bucks is okay but stress how the exposure of the photographer could increase potential future work - audience size - other channels - best phot to be published with bio in news letter that reaches x audience

*giggles* Your argument is so stupid. once you flow to the polls you will possibly desire to have a valid drivers license and handle. i individually do no longer think of any DMV might concern a drivers license to Micky Mouse. Take a relax pill.
