HELLO!
Okay, I know I ask too many questions about photography, but I'm getting frustrated.
There's this 16 year old photographer from Canada that I really admire, and I have the same exact camera as him. Well, I try so hard to take really good pictures like him and I can't do it. I know he uses photoshop sometimes, and so do I, but I'm still not satisfied.
Here's some of the pictures that he's taken (first two are him, the 3rd one is a picture of his sister):

here's a picture of me attempting to look like his pictures:

If you have any suggestions as to how I can make my pictures look more like his, I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks a lot!

Hi! I agree with what the others said. It's your lighting. It's a little too harsh while your friend's is softer. And your photograph looks a little too grainy. Try adjusting the ISO. You might wanna apply the rule of thirds. If you don't know what it is, you can Google it. It's good that you're persevering, though. Just don't try to imitate your friend. It's good to be known for your own style. God bless!

Well I will tell you that the first pictures are alright. When I was learning I was told by another photographer that when I was taking pictures to make shure that three of the corners had something focused in them, something pointing to them or whatever. Look at his third picture and check out how in three of the corners there is something in it. You picture is good but try taking it again and use that rule and also try a different angle. Be creative. Your picture just looks like a picture and not a photograph. You have the right idea just relax and try something new. dont be afraid because I take alot of pics that look like crap. Thats the name of the game. Check out my web site and see what u think.

I totally agree with the other person who answered. Don't imitate, do your own thing. The thing I noticed in both was the lighting. His seems softer lit than yours. I suggest you go to the library and take out a photography book and read up on lighting.

you really don't want to make your photos look like his, that's only imitation.
what you really want to do is to take good photographs.
to do that you need to understand your camera,it doesn't matter what kind of camera you use, just as long you can adjust the aperture and shutter speed and focus properly-you can take beautiful pictures and you don't have to shoot like anybody but yourself.you need to pay attention to your poses, your quality and direction of light as well as where your shadows go.you need to compose your pictures- good photos do not happen by accident, i reiterate good photos are planned and deliberate.
see how others take photos, how they compose their photos and develop your own style.
happy shooting.
God bless, gabe

You may have the same camera, but do you have the same lens? The lens can make a world of difference!
