I live in Charlotte NC and I love the theatre, but I've never actually performed or even worked behind the scenes. I would love to get involved with community theatre, even if its just helping with props or anything, but I don't know where to start. Any suggestions?

You can pay for different packages which seems ligitament to me b/c even 'big time' casting sites charge fees such as backstagewest.com, etc. What do you think? Also, does anyone have any other sites for extra work? Thank you! : )

I have written about 15 one-act plays with casts ranging from 1 person to 4 people. I don't want to send them out to theatres, though cause I don't have time right now. I already had five of them produced by one theatre group, but I would like other people to read them to see if they'd be interested in performing them. What would be the best way to announce their availability through the internet? Blog? Website? Postings? etc.?

How do they get an agent? They find one and say "I WANT U TO BE MY AGENT?" They pay them too right? Seems like everything involves money nowadays.

Does Exploretalent.com really work? I did JRP a while ago and found out they were a scam so I need to be more cautious. If not, do you know any other audition websites? Thanks!

I mean I read so much online! Do I become an extra? I found this extras site called www.moviex.com that I could pay for to get extra work... or do I just send myself out to parts? Do I get an agent? I get really 'scared' sometimes and don't send myself out b/c I don't think I'll do good in the audition. I don't know what to do about that either, do I take an acting class to get over my shyness? Any tips from fellow actors and others who know would be really helpful!! Thank you all ; )

I'm on the play committee for a small community theatre and I'm looking for suggestions of plays to read and propose to the committee. After exhausting the list of plays I'm familiar with, I scanned the Sam French catalogue for ideas, but I don't have 100's of dollars to spend buying scripts to read. Does anyone have suggestions for plays you have read/ directed/ acted in that you could recommend? Usually we look for a cast of 10 or less; the community seems to lean more toward comedies, but we have done some dramas and musicals as well.

I'm a kid who wants to fame, money, and most of all THE EXPERIENCE of being infront of the camera. I started acting because I was dramactic, and funny. I have different voice tones and I can do a good fight scene.

The only thing I'm worried about is how this will impact me in the future.
Should I start acting for the fun of it. Because I like it...
Even though it is at the risk of being in magazines, rumors, could possible start drugs, starve myself, and enter this dog eat dog world?
Is It Worth it ?
What do you think... I really do need help on this one.

This is completely random, but I'm curious as to what Broadway musicals does everyone think are just completely overrated? My friend and I were having this discussion last night and she says "RENT" (which I think is crazy--I'm an enormous RENThead), but I say "Spring Awakening," which is good, but I just don't get all the hype. So what does everyone else think?

OK, so I'm currently working on a stage musical based around an idealized version of disaffected, bored suburban youth and it's going well except for the fact that my writing partner and I are having a hard time coming up with an appropriate title for the musical. My partner thinks that maybe it should end with "Blues", like that movie "Varsity Blues", but I'm not sure about that. Any suggestions would be nice.
