I live in Charlotte NC and I love the theatre, but I've never actually performed or even worked behind the scenes. I would love to get involved with community theatre, even if its just helping with props or anything, but I don't know where to start. Any suggestions?

Look in the calendar section for local theatres and check out their websites. Many of them list audition info or even a phone number you can call to find out if they need help with a current production. I can't imagine a community theatre turning down an offer for help! I imagine they would grab you in a heartbeat, pull you in, and never let go! :-)

Your city or chamber of commerce may even have listings.

You can also do a search on backstage.com. Just highlight everything you may be interested in (or highlight everything) and see what comes up. You have to pay to get all the info on their site, but you can usually see enough to get the rest on your own (from google or whatever) without paying. Just find the theatre's site and get the info :-)

Good luck!

There are a variety of ways that you can be involved in a local theatre program. You can go to a local theatre and see if they have a program. That will give you firsthand, real info on how to perform to the potential. If there is not a theatre program or theatre in your area, you can see if a library or a community center has a program. How knows? Maybe they will have real, experienced actors/directors there who work in a theatre that can give you tips. If that doesn't work, a local school might have a program. School plays are great, and they are usually run by a music teacher or other knowlegdeable person. There are many possiblities for you to try. I hope I helped!

call the theaters and ask to be put on mailing lists or call and volunteer to do anything--within reason..
where I live, auditions are listed in the newspaper. I would check the papers and go to the auditions. Check to see if there are any acting classes offered in the theater. call and say, hey I want to help paint or sell tickets or handle props. believe me, you will be used. GOOD LUCK!

Contact your local community theatre and ask if they need any volunteer on their current project.

From there, on future projects, you could audition or sign up for crew or tech.

Hope you get some work!

Call and ask how you can volunteer. If you are a hard worker, they will be thrilled to have your help.
