Some people think human don't need emotion because it is nothing but a distraction and useless. According to the cold rational, people who are emotional (annoyingly sensitive), are truly overexaggarted their situation force them look like ,they are stupid and weak. However, they are actually smart despited being very stressful. True or not?

When you listen to nature or to a person or a child, etc.
can you listen with more than just your ears?

You hear with your ears but is true listening more a listening with all of your being, so to speak?

curious for opinions........

Since the dawn of connectionism, and in all likelyhood other related relms of epistemology, people have been talking about a Singularity, a union of human thought into a single, or perhaps bubbling, mind. The argument is approached with an idea related to how technological sophistication doubles every 18 months (Moore's Law states every 18 mo the transistors in a processor double, allowing for a doubling of power). This produces a exponetial curve which approaches an asymptote where it will pretty much just go up (proc power) and not very much at all to one side (time). With the growth of the internet and advances in neuro-implants that allow direct control for a computer's cursor, text writing (not attempted yet, but they are very close), and toggle controls, eventually it looks like we will all be "Jacked In" to the internet. Is this the dawn of a Singularity in which we all basically become different end-points for a singular "self"?

Google Singularity or Braingate for more info.

It seems to me sympathy is more like an ego thing(feeling sorry for someone with the idea that I'm glad it's not me?) while empathy seems to have more of a spiritual side; it seems to have deeper roots(to not just feel sympathy but to actually connect with someone's suffering because we all suffer and feel pain so we know how it is).

Is there a vast difference between the two or are they just different degrees of the same thing?

Why do we trust someone we've never met to give us the answer? Personally I think it is personal. We need others more than we need answers.
