My Five Golden Rules:
It takes all types of people to make the world go round- my mother
If you always do things the same way, you'll always get the same result- my father
The difference between a mature man and an immature man is that an immature man wants to die for a noble cause. A mature man wants to live humbly for one.- Catcher in the Rye
First with the head, then with the heart- The Power of One
So you see! There's no end to the things you might know, depending how far, beyond Zebra you go.- Dr. Suess, "On Beyond Zebra!"

No five-second grab, I'm sorry. My guide's a bit more complex, and I therefor find it applicable to every situation (though not always practicable, due to forces outside my influence!). The universe is a closed system, composed of relatively closed systems, from galaxies to Earth and other planets, all the way down to societies and families. In any closed system all parts (and the whole) are interdependant. So damage to any part ultimately damages all other parts. Beyond sustainable survival there is therefor no competitive advantage to be got - only selective short-term benefits at the eventual expense of "other", whether other people or one's own descendants (therefor at expense of one's self). It's "Deep Ecology" at every level; and Buddhism in a way. Perhaps no more than a good idea, when humanity has only been roughly "civilised" for a few thousand years, and still holds ideas from barbarism, and illusions of caring supernatural beings to relieve us of personal responsibility and thought - but a feller's gotta do what a fella can in the hope that it may help diminish human delusions and anguish! Of course, we're now busy murdering each other all over the place under the delusion it will bring "us" benefits; and destroying the life-support systems of the planet for the sake of unsustainable "economic" dogma based on ever-growing population and consumerism - not sustainable in a closed system. Every species has the seeds of its extinction built in with its strengths. One might have hoped we would have been intelligent enough to avoid it. But, like Nero, we do tend to fiddle. Mostly by looking for convenient answers instead of the correct questions. SO BASICALLY I say in everything look for who benefits; and look for the questions most readily ignored.

I try to live by the Golden Rule. I like many of the old axims such as "if it's worth doing, it's worth doing well" & "Yesterday's History, Tomorriw's a Mystery, Today is a Gift that's why it is called the Present" & last but not least, "Before you go to bed tonight, give your troubles to GOD, He'll be up all night anyway". You see I am an optomist to the nth degree. My glass is never 1/2 empty but is always at least 1/2 full.

Philosophy is purely a label for 'strategies approximately issues which we would on no account comprehend the genuine of'. additionally, predictions of the destiny are prophesies, no longer conventional philosophies. Prophets are ones who are watching for the destiny (many times inspired with the aid of a deity), no longer philosophers.

Gam Zu Letovah. "This too is for good." This forces me to re-evaluate all situations that I initially think are bad to see that really, it can be seen as good. It really makes things better to say this, over big and small things alike.
