Why do we trust someone we've never met to give us the answer? Personally I think it is personal. We need others more than we need answers.

That is a very good question. Personally I think that Answers adds a social and personal dimension to finding things out. Also there are questions that cannot be answered simply by looking things up. I have found that some questions - about gender differences for example, that crop up often are a very good way of coming to a deeper understanding of questions that I may have held in the back of my mind for years without ever really feeling that I can answer them without more data. Ofcourse this depends a lot on my own ability to interpret a range of answers and questions over a period of time.

Even if someone gives advice that I think is wrong or dangerous I have still found out something valuable about peoples beliefs, levels of experience, emotions etc. I have also found out therefore a great deal about myself.

I think that the whole thing is quite subtle and depends upon the individual and what they want to get out of it. Even so, over time I believe people find out things about themselves and others almost unintentionally - unconsciously. It is a powerful phenomenon - as is the internet generally.

I have often been pleasantly surprised by the degree of tolerance or understanding exhibited in people's answers.
It is possible to build up a picture of society and social attitudes (and much more) that is not possible if you just go looking for sites on the Internet.

I find it surprisingly intimate, often touching and always fun.
Long live Yahoo Answers!

Hmmm... I searched the Internet and couldn't find the answer to your question... guess it can only be answered here. Some folks have trouble searching, and some questions are so specific you just can't get an answer. Other questions ask for opinions or comments, and it's difficult to find that elsewhere, too. I once asked a question here by no one could answer it... I wanted to know the alternative endings for the movie Layer Cake starring Daniel Craig. I rented the DVD, but failed to notice that it had several endings... if you could answer this question or point to where the answer is on the Internet, I'd give you ten points.

I think that it's the interaction and exploration of ideas, plus the clarification of technical information, that makes Yahoo Answers a valuable forum. Besides, if all we wanted to do was to look it up on the Internet, how are we ever going to get the voice of personal experience and hard-won knowledge that might save us a lot of time and trouble?

It is interesting the various answers one gets from various persons. Each has their own opinion and solution. Those answering may have experienced a similar problem, and really know of the remedy or solution; i.e speaking from their own experiences.

I think you may be on to something, but let's not forget all of us are not completely computer savvy and really do need the guidance! I personally have learned somethings on here that probably would have taken me through much trial and error. It's also entertainment. Peace!

I think its because different people see the same things differently, so if you have 30+ people telling you something, there will always be 1 or 2 that say it how you would say it , am i making any sense?

I think people just like the idea of other real people in real time talking to them & giving them a wide scope of answers

You have answered your own question. It is a somewhat safe connection to others in this frightening and judgmental place we call home.
