I need some advice on what to better in this chapter of a story I am writing. It is somewhat long, but I hope fantasy-readers enjoy it.

I've been reading a lot of non-fiction but want to balance it out with some fiction books:

Some books I enjoy:
Pride and Prejudice, Sense and Sensibility
The Namesake
The Life of Pi
The Lord of the Rings trilogy as well as The Hobbit
The Golden Compass
The Handmaid's Tale
The Kite Runner
Gentleman and Players

Here are some books/series I did NOT like:
The Phantom Tollbooth
Robert Jordan's really long "Wheel of Time" series
Mists of Avalon
The Painted Veil
Snow Flower and the Secret Fan
Moby Dick
The Alchemist

Thanks!!

I think it is. At least the part about the Ministy of Magic. I mean "Magic is Might?" Thats obviously taken from "Ignorence is Strength, War is Peace, Freedom is Slavery." And that eye? I can only see Big Brother and his telescreens. And the ruthless inquisition- Miniluv and Room 101? I think it's just a rip-off. in that part. What do you think? And isn't 1984 extremly better then Harry Potter?

I want to get a new book. I like to read novels (fiction&literature) with settings in small towns (midwest, down south). I like books with a little romance but I'm not looking for one primarily based on love or erotica. Books I've read are: Where The Heart is....and....Shoot the Moon- Billie Letts. I'm looking for something with a story of love, home, family, mystery, finding your roots... Got any ideas for me???? Your answers are much appreciated!

The man was woken up many hundreds of years in the future, when all men had died out, and only women lived. Men were dug up from graves and brought back to work as mindless slaves ( and for reproduction purposes). He was a mistake that allowed him to return to life with his mind intact. I have looked all over the net for it, but when I type in the title, I usually wind up with links going to Bible-related books. Can someone help???

This is a broader question that just Dumbledore. What I really want to know is to what extent the intention of an author determines the meaning of fiction. Can they change the meaning of a book AFTER it has been written? There is nothing in the Harry Potter books about Dumbledore being gay. Is he gay just because Rowling said so? What if she announced tomorrow that he was straight? Would he then be straight just because she said so? Does it matter whether her intentions are the same or different now than when she was writing the books?

Hi, I was just wondering if there are any published authors. I know this question might get tossed around a lot, but do you prefer to write longhand or on the computer and why? Thanks. I know it's a silly question, but I'm just curious!
