"Because MacLachlan does not refer to specific locations or historical events, both the geographic and temporal settings of Sarah, Plain and Tall are difficult to pinpoint. The story is set somewhere on the great American prairie at a time when horses still served as the major mode of transportation, probably in the late nineteenth or early twentieth century. MacLachlan, born in Wyoming on the high plains, finds great joy and inspiration in this open country."

"For instance, you read in the “How Sarah, Plain
and Tall Came About” section that a woman named Sarah really did exist. She was actually a relative of Patricia MacLachlan and she answered an advertisement to be a wife and mother to a
family. The time period and setting of the book also existed in real life. The author has set her book in the 1800s in the American Midwest and has written about things going on in that time period just as they were in reality."

Setting

The story takes place on a farm on a prairie. We feel that this setting supports the story because in the time period this story takes place many people live on a farm. This story could not take place right now because there are not arranged marriages.

The setting for this story take’s place around the house. This story is about stuff that happed long ago because they rode in a wagon. They didn’t have swimming pools so they swam in the cow pound. They didn’t have cars so they had to ride in wagons or by horses.

The setting of this book is on the prairie at a farmhouse. This story takes place a long time ago because they ride in wagons and do not have electricity. They also raised their own food and animals to eat.

Well when you read the books description of the area, I would opt for Kansas or Nebraska.

Kansas.
EDIT: I thought it was Kansas! I still think so, but I've been known to be wrong.
