Hi, I was just wondering if there are any published authors. I know this question might get tossed around a lot, but do you prefer to write longhand or on the computer and why? Thanks. I know it's a silly question, but I'm just curious!

Oh yeah, you don't have to be published by the way. I just kinda wrote that. Even if you aren't published, I still like to hear your opinion.

Well i enjoy using the computer the most because its easier to keep up with how fast I'm thinking. When i'm not at home, i print out the last page of the book that i'm writing, and i carry a notebook so that i can continue writing wherever i go.

I prefer writing on the computer because my fingers can almost keep up with my thoughts. Writing on paper is slower.

However, if I am having trouble finding the time or getting through a scene, I do go back to paper. There was one morning very vivid in my memory when I wrote 36 pages by hand and put all my characters (and me) through the wringer. By the time I finally got out of bed, it was just to eat something and go back to sleep because my brain was jelly.

And I would love to repeat that day.....

The book, SEARCH FOR THE SUN, won the Eppie Award for Best Mystery. The pages I did that day began with Donal having a late night snack with his captain and ended with him nearly dead and his captain...... (you'll have to read the book)

I find that it's easy writing both longhand and by computer. However, I do prefer longhand. For me it's that the computer is like a prompt. It feels like it requires immediate attention. When I write longhand, it feels like I can take my time doing it and there isn't any pressure for it to be perfect. I think the best writing is done in a relaxed atmosphere. Maybe this will help you. Dunno. Try them both and see which works best.

For me, I like both. I'm not exactly 'published' persay, but I'm still a writer. I like to write things out on paper to start, that's how I do my rough draft and get my ideas flowing. Then, I use the computer while I rewrite and edit what I've written. I can also then read things over and over without wasting paper until it's finally finished.
