I've been fooled! I just read the Iliad and there was NO HORSE! Why? Where is the horse? I thought at the end Paris killed Hector and Troy was sacked, but I just read the entire epic poem and found nothing! Where is the Trojan Horse, and why was I told I would read about it in the Iiad?

I've heard from other people that the Catholic school board is banning the Golden Compass. I have a couple of questions. Why are they banning the book? Just because it has magic in it, like Harry Potter, or is there something in the story that's bad? And why are they banning it now, when the movie's coming out? Was it not important enough of an issue until now?

For anyone who has read the Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, what is the significance of Dr. Jekyll's name? Hyde is obviously because he is hiding as Dr. J, Utterson comes from the word utter, but I can't seem to figure out the significance of Jekyll. Anyone know?

I was going to suggest a book token, but he wants to write a dedication on the inside. His brother only reads classics or booker prize shortlisters and/or winners etc., he doesn't like thrillers or detective stories, gosh this is soooo hard.
I was thinking of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, what do you think.

Mine are Thomas Hardy for the classics, Dean Koontz for the thrillers, Clive Barker for the bizarre and James Ellroy for the gritty. Of course every book becomes a favourite if it grips you so every thing changes again!

I am not really into the really young adult books but enjoy the ones that aren't to adult like Anne Rice but not to young like Christiphor pike. I am looking for books that are like Stephanie Meyers Twighlight series or Patricia Briggs's Mercedes Thompson books. Can anyone recommmend something like these two authors that deals with vampires.
Thanks so much!

During the summer, I was listening to radio 2, and there was a lady who had written a book about the loos all around the British Isles.
My husband and I had a laugh about it, but now it's coming up to Christmas, I thought I would pop one in his Christmas stocking. I'm having trouble finding it. Does anyone know what this book is called, or who the author was?

I am trying to write out a list to give to my friends and family for Christmas gifts I would enjoy and I was wondering if anyone knew any good Tudor Era books. Like King Henery VIII, Edward Tudor, and Mary Tudor?
Books on Elizabeth I and Mary, Queen Of Scots would be appericated as well. I am very into this time in history and would love so good books during this time periods.
Isabel of Castile and any of the other daughters related to Katherine of Aragon would be loved as well. Marie Anntoniette.
Basically any good history books. But I like the Reforming times. I am not big on American history, so none of those books are needed. I have gotten several written down already. Such as Margret George, Philippa Gregory, and Carolyn Meyer. But are there any other good authors?
Book titles would be good too. Like those 'Royal Dairy' things, like the 'Dear Americas'.
Thank you!
